Thrill seekers will delight in the rides at this park just south of the city, including one of Europe’s fastest free falls and a popular wooden roller coaster.

Test your fears on the highest free fall ride in Europe or brave the Balder roller coaster at Liseberg Amusement Park. Young children are catered for with many gentle attractions outside the thrill rides. The park’s concert and dance halls, which regularly feature live music, offer something for every age.

Liseberg opened in 1923 for the Gothenburg World’s Fair and is today one of Scandinavia’s most visited amusement parks. Spend a day here enjoying more than 40 attractions. These include modern, record-breaking thrill rides and more old-fashioned rides, like a popular wooden roller coaster.

Thrill seekers shouldn’t miss AtmosFear, the transformed Liseberg Tower, which offers one of Europe’s highest free falls. Take in panoramic views of the city before you drop 116 metres (380 feet) in under 4 seconds. Balder, considered to be one of the best wooden roller coasters in the world, is worth a ride for its exciting loops and turns.

Take children on the park’s teacup rides, bumper cars and into the Hall of Mirrors. Ride the Ferris wheel to enjoy a view of Gothenburg to the north. When the rides have stopped running late on summer evenings, hit the dance halls, where live bands play almost every night.

Come in December to see Liseberg Amusement Park decorated with more than 5 million lights. Other seasonal highlights include a spectacular ice show, sleigh rides around the park and food stalls with reindeer kebabs, a local delicacy.

Liseberg Amusement Park lies about 4 kilometres (2.5 miles) south of Gothenburg. Come from the city centre by tram or car. The park is open during the warmer months from April to October and again for the holidays from mid-November to December 23. There is a fee to get in. Children under 110 centimetres (43 inches) can enter for free, but height restrictions keep them from riding many of the attractions. Once you enter, buy tickets for each individual ride. Snacks and drinks are available inside the park.
