"The location is amazing but the hotel itself was okay.
We arrived 5 weeks into a country wide strike of hotel workers. This was not made clear to us at any point prior to our check in via email or alternative communication. We were told at the time of check in that we would get irregular room cleaning based on housing staff availability. We were caught off guard but since we already were there we weren't going to cancel our room. Since we were told there would be inconsistent room cleaning we decided to prioritize the middle of our trip to refresh the room. The front desk gentleman said he'll make a note and ask the housekeeping staff. It was not cleaned that day. We then followed up in the evening and were told that there would be no housecleaning at all during our stay. Eventually one of the front desk staff was courtesy enough to offer to refresh our room herself. She went above and beyond and we are appreciative of her efforts. However being misled at the time of check in and then 1-2 days into our stay to be told differently about cleaning offerings left a sour taste for our stay. If we knew there was no housekeeping we would have opted for an airbnb instead.
Other issues - the room AC were warm despite being at the coldest settings. The rooms are very cramped. All of their base rooms are listed at 161 square feet. Which is basically 1 queen sized bed + barely enough room for two check in bags open on the floor."
"Everything was good and I would definitely consider staying again. All the usual boxes were ticked: our room was ready early, it was roomy, clean, tastefully appointed, the breakfast was excellent, the location very good. If I had to find fault and be picky, there are a couple of things which could be improved:
First, there was work going on in the hotel - and at 9am there was drilling in the floor below with a heavy masonry bit. The reverberations sounded like it was directly into our bedroom wall. We were on holiday and have earned a lie in - which we expect to be able to enjoy beyond 9am.
Second, the communication between the Spa and the Reception was poor. There had apparently been new rules regarding the Spa bookings recently introduced. Spa sessions of 2 hours could be booked in, but depending on the time of day, these were either complimentary as part of your stay, or chargeable extras. We booked two sessions; the first was during a chargeable period, which wasn't explained at Reception when we booked that slot, the second was during a period when the Spa was being cleaned, and so both pools were out of use - again, not explained at Reception when we booked the slot.
I can't imagine we were the only guests who have fallen foul of this and the hotel should do better."
"The breakfast was very disappointing. The strike by hotel and restaurant workers had an obvious impact on the breakfast experience;though we only found out on arrival, when at reception we were told that no hot food would be on offer. This was a major problem for my wife who has significant blood-sugar problems. The choice of low sugar foods was woeful with only two choices of fruit, both not classed as low sugar. The choice of cereals and pastries did not compensate for the lack low sugar staples such as egg, beans and bacon. There was no sign of any diabetic food nor any labelling of sugar content on what was available.
The room was not serviced for the week we were there but fresh towel were provided on request.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
At no time were we offered any form of compensation for the inconvenience and significant reduction in the level of service we had expected from this status of hotel.
( I assume an expected reduction in the cost to Expedia will be passed on to us.)

"For an expensive hotel close to the city center of Bergen, we were surprised by how outdated our room was. The carpet was worn and the room decor was very 1990s. The breakfast was very good and worth the money. We wouldn’t stay there again. "
