Thesoft, white sand of Legian Beach stretches for 3 kilometres (1.8 miles) andwhile its still popular, its distance from Kuta makes it a little quieter.
Bothexperienced surfers and beginners flock to the beach to make the most of the frequentlarge swells, the gentle sand banks and the perfect peaks of the waves. Boardrental is cheap at Legian Beach so if you didn’t bring your own you’re still infor a day of fun in the surf and beginners will love the lessons offered by thelocal surf school. Even if surfing isn’t your thing, watching others stillmakes for a great spectacle as you relax in the sun.
Whileit’s easy to spend the whole day lounging on the sand while local vendors sellyou drinks where you sit, there is a lot of beach to explore if you’re feelingactive. Walk along the sand to reach Kuta Beach in the south or Seminyak Beachin the north. As you make your way you’ll stumble across the resorts and hotelsthat line the coast, along with cosy beachfront cafés and lively bars offeringfresh cocktails and snacks.
Arriveat the beach at dusk to take in the picture-perfect sunset. Pick up a Bintang,Bali’s famous beer, or a can of coconut nectar as you watch the rich red tonesflood the sky. Justover 2 kilometres (1 mile) from Kuta, Legian Beach is easily reached on foot orby taxi, scooter or bicycle. Parking can be scary and driving yourself isn’trecommended. From the Ngurah Rai airport it’s only a 20-minute taxi ride toLegian Beach, and accommodation and amenities, including umbrella and chairhire, can be found on the waterfront. Visit between May and October to make themost of the dry season.
