"Free breakfast was very limited to cold cereal a few small muffins, bagels and fruit. There was a waffle maker which we didn’t use. Coffee was fine. Hot tub was closed the first night, probably for maintenance, because it was open the second day. Pool looked inviting but we didn’t get a chance to use it either day. Biggest turn off was the ant invasion in our bathroom the 1st night and the huge dying cockroach we found inside our room near the bathroom door when we returned to the room the 2nd night. Both were taken care of by the guest. FYU, we stayed in the ADA room 221, which is on the north side of the property facing the main road, which is fairly noisy due to traffic. Meanwhile the staff were friendly and efficient and the other guests we encountered all seemed friendly as well. Bottom line, Dana Point Marina Inn is old and tired, but it is still a great location, with a laid back beach vibe. The good news is that the entire harbor area is in the middle of a major renovation project that will be completed in 2028. So, many of the old shops and restaurants are closed. However, once this massive renovation project is complete the “new” hotel(s) shops and restaurants will be worth the wait and an extended visit to this charming and historic coastal community."

"Hotel with a central courtyard & big BBQ grill. Room was oversized with a sofa ... but old style, short toilet was a negative. Bar height countet, oversized fridge. Nice room over all. The locked gates (protecting the central courtyard) were a bit off-putting, but the area is clean and well maintained. Would stay again."

"Pictures on hotels.com were of the other best western in town- it was not on the beach. Room was okay. It faced a very busy loud street with ill fitting doors- basically it was like a motel from the past. Needs updating!"

"Basically very clean and comfortable rooms with good beds. TV selection channels somewhat limited but adequate Continental. Breakfast good overall although again somewhat limited. Maid service was excellent."

"Watch out because this hotel is under renovation so lots of construction going on which we didn’t know at the time of booking. We had a fabulous breakfast at the hotel restaurant, Jose the restaurant server was very attentive and accommodating. All staff members were very gracious under the circumstances of the hotel’s renovation."

"My stay was short and simple. I saw a concert down the street, then used the room to sleep for 7 hours. The hotel did its job. The pictures make this place appear better-looking than in person. If you care about appearance of the property, this isn’t a 5/5."

"The room was clean. Note that if you reserve through a third party they will give you the least desirable room. I requested an early check in at 2pm. When I checked in they had just finished cleaning the room so the whole room smelled like bleach. I opened all the windows but that did not help. I was able to switch rooms. So I had my 2 dogs with me but I had to step out for a few minutes for the hotel breakfast. The manager called me and was so rude. I'm like did he forget that the hotel allowed dogs and that dogs actually bark? He asked if I was off the property without explaining what the call was about. It made me feel extremely uncomfortable. It was the strangest way to start off a phone call. So he continued to say people complained that my dogs were barking for an hour which was not true at all. He could've explained it without being rude and not assume that my dogs were left alone for an hour. He really seemed like he did not like his job. Even before the call. He lacked customer service skills. No smile or anything and standoffish or unapproachable. I was surprised to find out he was actually the manager. The gentleman at the front desk helped me switch rooms and also phoned me to let me know that the room was ready. He was very friendly and accommodating. Honestly the manager seemed to not be very people friendly at all."
