A Great Place to Relax
The house itself is very nicely laid out and equipped, and is situated on - best guess - a couple acres of partially wooded land that backs up to the sloped and rocky shoreline of Lake LaMotte.
We lacked for nothing inside the house - it has all the conveniences of home. We happened to be visiting over several days that from all accounts were a bit unusually hot and humid, and the whole-house ventilation system did a pretty good job of keeping the inside temp in check.
The outside accommodations - a screened gazebo and large gas BBQ grill - were very nice, and we used both extensively. The one suggested addition for outside I would offer is a camping-style fire ring or one of those raised wood-burning fire "pits." Nothing beats sitting around a campfire (yes, the days we were visiting were pretty hot, but at night it cooled down nicely).
We very much enjoyed the Abitibi-Temiscamingue area and the outdoor opportunities it afforded. We kayaked and swam/snorkeled in L. LaMotte (right off the back property), explored the nearby cities of Val D'or and Amos, had a wonderful experience visiting a wildlife rehabilitation and education facility just East of Amos, hiked in a beautiful National Park Southwest of Amos and bicycled along the gravel road where Escapade Nordique is located, as well as in/around the close village of LaCorne. If we'd had some additional time I would have liked to kayak the numerous smallish rivers that one crosses when driving on nearby Route 111, and which I assume flow into L. LaMotte. I'm not sure, though, how accessible these are for "putting in."
In short, we found Escapade Nordique a very comfortable "base camp" for our outdoor activity-oriented 4-5 day exploration of a charming piece of Canada that we'd love to return to someday.
