Downside: The rooms were very tiny. The windows did not open so it left them somewhat claustrophobic. The main attraction of the hotel seemed to the communal baths which held no interest for me. The staff’s abilities to speak English was limited. At one point the front desk staff member used a translator on her phone to tell me they had made a mistake and forgot to charge me about $90. Upside: the rooms were clean and the location was a walkable distance to transportation stations.

The hotel was lovely but unfortunately even though I had entered the ages of my children (9, 12 and 15) in Expedia when I booked, the hotel had us registered as staying with 3 children 2 years and under. The beds were not big enough for more than 1 person but they did allow us to stay in the room and pay additional fees for older children. The amenities and food were excellent, but the our 9 year old and 12 year old had to share a single bed and we had to pay additional fees even though through Expedia we were eligible to book this room with the ages of our children specified correctly. My understanding was that they were double or queen beds and that the rooms we had paid for slept 8. I’m not sure where the discrepancy occurred (with Expedia or with the hotel) but it was not pleasant to have to pay an extra $100 CAD per night and still have insufficient sleeping arrangements.

A really good stay at Intergate in Kyoto! Small but functional room, with all amenities to be picked up at the reception (even cleansers + facial creams etc). Very friendly staff - always attentive and eager to help. The area was fantastic - easy to walk around, and lots of lovely restaurants 2 minutes walk away from the hotel! The Lounge was a great surprise, as this was very downscaled on the website and on hotels.com. They served free coffee and tea all day, and from 5-7pm they served sparkling, red and white wine, as well as beer - together with light snacks. And; the breakfast was better than Hilton in Hiroshima - by a mile!!! A great recommondation!
