Loved it
Absolutely loved this cottage. Very cosy, spacious and in a perfect location to explore the Lake District. And it’s less than a minute’s walk to the local pub. The only issue we had was with the oven and grill, which randomly kept cutting out in the middle of cooking food.

Disappointing
Disappointing compared to other cottages within the portfolio. Damp and cold, instructions on how to change heating would be advantageous. Cottage not as clean as it could be, lots of dog hair and vacum smelling. A few other points which has been highlighted and hopefully rectified for forthcoming guests. Great location for access to Whinlatter. A little more tlc and it would be excellent.

Great location, tired house
Lovely area, great views etc but the cottage is very old and tired. Bathroom new bit kitchen is very poor and old. Damp under one cupboard, you have to guess what the dials on the grill and oven are as they are so worn.
It wasn’t the cleanest either, cob webs in kitchen and the back yard had wobbly flags which also need attention.
Needs bringing up to date and would be lovely little cottage.
Excellent property in ideal situation for walking in northern lakes. Well equipped cottage with everything we needed.

Excellent
This cottage is very comfortable, in a great spot, very well equipped for self catering. This was our third stay and will not be our last, the only gripe on this occasion is the toilet roll was nearly empty, it would have been nice if a refil were left.

Stanger cottage
Sorry but I dont think stanger cottage is worth 4 stars like other keswick cottages we have stayed in could do with extra cleaning, mattress protector quite stained and dust on quite a few areas. Guides on how to use TV and cooker need updating as folder very mismash. Still with these hopefully constructive comments I would still recommend stanger to friends.

Good but disappointed!!
We have stayed in Stanger cottage several times before and were disappointed to find it very poorly equipped with kitchen utensils than it was previously , making it much harder to cater than before ,the door locks had also been changed from our visit 18 months before and the back door was difficult to open ,when we arrived we rang Keswick cottages about it as we couldn't get in and were told just keep turning the key and it will open eventually, which would indicate that it was an on going problem, we again reported it after turning the key over 50 times and still being unable to get in ,and we're assured that a lock smith would sort it that day ,we arrived back to find the same problem ,not really good enough!!!

Totally neglected and dangerous property - avoid!
Two separate electrical faults. One caused a flame to shoot out the wall melting the wires in the kitchen socket, the other melted the wires in the immersion heater meaning no hot water for several days. A door fell off in the kitchen, and the upstairs landing storage heater wires had been cut and disconnected so it was freezing upstairs at night. I was told by the electrician that came out several times that the owner of the property liked to ‘tinker’ with the electrics hence the botched up and dangerous wiring. I was also told the owner was very tight and wouldn’t spent money on the place. This was obvious. Superficially the cottage looked nice and has great potential, but everything was literally falling to bits, broken or downright dangerous. The bathroom extractor fan didn’t work and the bath wouldn’t drain. And the kitchen external door lock is faulty and takes 5,763 turns of the key before it unlocks.
This is one of the more expensive properties but one of the most neglected and dangerous ones I have ever stayed in. Keswick cottages were useless at resolving the issues promptly and kept saying it was the owners responsibility not there’s. Ahem, my contact is with you Keswick Cottages not the owner!
Lovely location but if you want to enjoy your stay book a different property with a different company and don’t line greedy owners pockets.

Beautiful cottage in a fantastic location
Another fantastic stay at Stanger Cottage. A lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful setting surrounded by fantastic views.Weather on our side. The only disappointment was that the Royal Oak was not open for food and the Middle Ruddings was closed for a refurbishment but will definitely be back again.

Very reasonable cottage in a desirable location
Comfortable accommodation in Braithwaite.
On-street parking here always a problem but can be found.
Bring your own special cooking items as these units may not have all of the items that you have at home.
Phone reception might be a problem depending upon provider.
Got a fridge/freezer replaced within 24 hours, once we managed to contact them.

It's so nice we try to coming back each year
A great cottage in a great location that is well looked after year after year. While the price has more than doubled since we started staying here having looked at other options Stanger is still our top pick.

Stanger Cottage - Braithwaite
We stayed at Stanger Cottage from the 13th May to the 20th May 2022. We were really impressed with the cottage. It had all the amenities/facilities we needed, it’s in a great village and close to so many wonderful places to visit. I would recommend it to anyone!
