Potential to be great…..but…..

To start with the positives, the location is great, tucked away in a quiet courtyard but close to town and local amenities. Ideal base location for exploring the lakes. The cottage is clean and tidy with a lovely kitchen and bathroom. Set over 3 floors with the lounge on the top floor which is spacious. Parking was never a problem and with use of the pass we always managed to park on the road outside. Unfortunately the deal breaker was the bed and because of this we wouldn't book again unless this was rectified. After a day hiking the fells you want a comfy bed and unfortunately this is one of the most uncomfortable beds I have slept on. The frame moves, squeaks and doesn’t feel sturdy and the mattress dips and gave me back ache ️ Such a shame as the rest of the cottage was great. Another minor suggestion for improvement would be to provide a microwave.

A spacious and central house with good facilities

The house had lots of space and was light and bright. The kitchen area was nice and well equipped, there was a lovely bathroom with a great shower, and a very nice upstairs sitting room. Good wifi throughout too. It was also in a great location - close to the centre but shielded from traffic noise. With a more comfortable bed and a bit more invested in some nice pillows and bedding this would have been a great holiday rental. No tea towel provided and the most miniscule amount of washing up liquid. There was a filthy table runner on the kitchen table that gave a poor first impression, plus a broken blind in the sitting room. But the main issue for me was the uncomfortable sleeping set up. I know this is personal taste but from my point of view the beds and bedding really let the place down.

Super location

It was a great holiday home with plenty of space for three adults. It was well located for trips to the Lake District and also to Yorkshire. If you are good at parking, there is always a parking space along the road, although not right outside the front door. The kitchen/living room is cosy and spacious and the electric radiators made it easy to heat quickly and as customised There is an airfryer, which we did not use, and an Aeropress coffee machine, which makes good coffee. The larger fridge with freezer compartment was also great. The design of the rooms is appealing and tasteful. We definitely felt very comfortable and would choose this accommodation again. Nevertheless, there were things that didn't quite match the high standard of the house. In both toilet rooms the soap containers were empty, the hoover was so clogged with carpet fluff that it did not vacuum. The heavily soiled forecourt by the front door, the frayed kitchen towel and the stained table runner did not make a good impression. There is neither a socket for the hairdryer nor for the shaver in the bathroom. But we think all this could easily be fixed and then everything would be great! The safety box for the house key was a well-functioning, secure place unfortunately the key jammed, especially from the inside. The key problem also exists for the downstairs toilet. Suggestions for improvement: The forecourt in front of the front door should be swept every now and then. As we found it, the first impression was not very inviting. The table runner was freshly washed but had red wine stains. The houseplants were dried out. The soap dispensers in the house were empty throughout. There was only one frayed tea towel. The box of dishwasher salt was soaked in a plastic box with water, as were the few remaining dishwasher tabs. The coating on the pans was damaged. There was no salad bowl. Unfortunately, there was no broom and the hoover was totally blocked and didn't really work. A mirror in the guest toilet would have been great. We think at least one or two things could be improved with little effort and would be more in keeping with the status of the house. The communication with the agency could also be better. We received no reply to our email during our stay.
