Fairmont Orchid

"My husband and I had a wonderful one week stay at Fairmont Orchid. The weather was perfect mid October, and this area is generally very dry. We were looking to unwind and only rented a car for one day to go visit Volcano village and the botanical gardens in Hilo. I do recommend a one and a half hour scenic drive to the beautiful gardens. Snorkeling in the hotel lagoon was an amazing experience. There are so many turtles there and different kinds of fish. The hotel provides snorkeling equipment free of charge. Do not forget water shoes for swimming. I saw many sea urchins. There were plenty of chaises in the shade as well as in the sun, and you could also rent covered chaises as well as private cabanas. The food is good but it’s better at the neighboring Mauna Lani for the same money. The shuttle will take you there free of charge. You can walk there along the beach. We enjoyed both resorts. Fairmont guests are welcome at Mauna Lani. Overall, great relaxing time."

"Stayed in the cabin. It was comfortable and clean. Nice view of the ocean. The staff was helpful. It would have been better if there were instruction on how to use some of the amenities."

"Everyone's been to Hawaii. Everyone's stayed on the ocean in a hotel room. Try something different! Only 5 miles from the ocean. Elevation 1900'. 270 degree views. Spectacular Frank Lloyd Wright home with everything you need for a fantastic vacation. Our family truly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, very private setting."

"The host was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. The place was very clean, cozy, comfortable, and well cared for. Everything felt inviting and made for a relaxing stay. We really appreciated the hospitality and enjoyed our time here. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfortable and welcoming stay, and would happily stay here again!"

"The whole experience was awesome. Some major points:1. The view is awesome. House is on 3 acres and you have a view of the ocean. You can watch cruise ships go by. No other neighbors to contend with. Peaceful. Sound of a running stream. Lots of Hawaiian forest surrounds the other sides.2. The house is exceptional. Two 360 degree decks that surround the house (upper and lower). Great shade and a constant breeze of clean air. Many outdoor chairs and lounges to recline on. Wonderful place to read a book. I did not watch TV for 2 weeks (but there is one).3. Upstairs is a large living room and a well equipped kitchen. Lots of windows to open and let the breeze come in. The house is about 1500 feet above sea level so the temperature is almost always perfect - probably about 6-8 degrees cooler than Hilo.. There is also 1 bedroom and a bath.4. On the occasional clear night the sky is magnificent. No nearby lights to detract from it.5. Downstairs the 2 bedrooms and 2 baths are large and comfortable. Again, lots of windows to let the breeze in.6. I want to live here. Planning on coming back."
