Enjoy a day of lush park scenery, beautiful lakes and great galleries before relaxing on the grass to the sounds of traditional music at this inner city park.

Enjoy a mini getaway in the heart of São Paulo in Ibirapuera Park, a large green space featuring quiet gardens and some of the city’s key cultural institutions. Explore the city’s largest park to find scenic lakes, fascinating museums and a network of cycling and walking paths. Find a shady spot beneath a tree by the lakeside to relax after seeing the sights of the city. Known as the “Central Park of São Paulo”, this park is a favourite with locals and visitors.

Explore the park on the weekend to join locals cycling, walking and jogging along the connecting pathways. Hire a bike from a rental stand inside the park and enjoy a cool breeze as you cruise along the scenic paths. Signs lead the way to many of the park’s major attractions. Check out the work of some of Brazil’s most renowned artists, such as Anita Malfatti and Aldo Bonadei, at the Museum of Modern Art. Nearby, find the Afro-Brazil Museum to discover the history and culture of African Brazilians.

Enjoy the rhythmic tunes of Afro-Brazilian bands on the grass near the Ibirapuera Auditorium. Admire the impressive contemporary structure, designed by Oscar Niemeyer, and get your photo taken in front of its distinctive sculptural entrance. In summer, the auditorium’s rear wall opens up and you can see music performances in the sunshine or under the stars. Visit the park on a Sunday morning to watch a free local act at Praça de Paz, an open-air venue. Borrow a book in English or Portuguese from the Bosque de Leitura, an outdoor library, and relax in the shade while you read. Return your book at the end of the day.

Ibirapuera Park is situated to the west of São Paulo’s central business district. Reach the park with the city’s bus or metro system or walk from many central destinations. Metered car parking is available on the streets adjacent to the park. The park is open daily and entry is free.
