"We have not had the pleasure of visiting the Peacock at Barlow for some time, so it was indeed a treat when we returned for a short getaway and an afternoon tea! The latter was a delight - a really lovely selection of sandwiches as well as some absolutely delicious chorizo sausage rolls. The highlight was however the desert in the form of an absolutely incredible cream tea. The scone was still slightly warm and beautifully cooked and the cream was some of the finest I have tasted. It was very apparent there was no skimping here! We also managed some lovely cake from the selection on offer (although by the time we got to it, we were both too full). The cottage was a delight with some really lovely, carefully thought out features and little touches which made it even more special. The bed was huge and extremely comfortable and we both slept very well. Both bathrooms were clean and really well furnished. Overall, a wonderful stay and we will definitely be back. Thank you."

"The room was clean and bed comfy. BBC tv coverage bad. Bathroom needs upgrading. Room 115. Breakfast good but chaotic - there was not enough info on ordering various items and what order to move around the various item tables. Finding staff to take order not easy. Staff were v pleasant. Reception staff excellent Didn’t use any spa facilities so can’t comment. Overall impression that the whole building needs attention. Very good position for Chesterfield."

"What a wonderful place to stay. Beautiful property, lovely clean room in a gorgeous setting. The owners were welcoming and accommodating and the provisions were superb. The room was lovely and comfortable with a modern wet room en-suite. Breakfast was absolutely delicious and the selection was excellent. We will definitely return."

"The property generally was very good Staff were very considerate. The problem was that to access the accommodation was only by scaling a flight of stone steps from the car park 13 steps and then to access any of the rooms on the next floor another flight of steep steps had to be negotiated. All of this makes it very unsuitable for any with disabilities. This should be made clear when looking to book accommodation"

"What a wonderful cottage, right in the middle of farm country. We arrived to a plate of flapjacks and a jar of yummy creamed honey, and with tea and coffee on hand. The host was very flexible with our check-in time, since we'd had an early flight to the area. The cottage had everything we needed, and we really appreciated the full, updated kitchen. Our host stopped in to be sure everything was as expected, and to fill us in on some details on operating the water heater since the furnace would not be needed in the warm weather. We found it unusual that windows in England don't come with screens, but leaving the windows open didn't matter as insects aren't as plentiful as they are here in Connecticut, US. Walks in the area are just lovely, especially the lane at the top of the hill, and we highly recommend the Fox and Goose Inn for dining as it's just a walk up the hill, too. We'd return on another trip to visit family in Chesterfield!!"

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay it was ideal for me(disabled) with many things nearby to do We went to Millers Dale station and went along the Monsal Dale trail (all level) Bakewell and Matlock Bath were lovely to wander around ( the latter had a park alongside the river Derwent) . Abraham Heights was too steep to get to the cable cars but maybe that's because my son couldn't push my excessive weight!! It was nice to return to warm cosy accommodation.Milk in fridge coffee and tea / biscuits made us feel welcome and there were ample towels/T rolls etc Beds were comfy and it was very quiet We hope to stay there again.😄"

"Fabulous cottage. Well equipped, the log burner a real treat for warm and cosy evenings. Owners large field directly across from the cottage to exercise the dog. Good walk to Lincacre Reservoir down the farm track directly behind the cottages. Owners very welcoming. Peacock Inn walking distance and dog friendly (bar only, but bar area is large). Ideally located to visit and admire the Derbyshire Dales scenery."
