The location was great if you are going to use the bus service to Hadrian’s Wall as you can take it to a stop and walk back to the hotel. The staff were quite friendly and helpful, especially the bar tender! There are lovely and comfortable places to sit and chat or read like the lobby, the library or the cocktail lounge. It is an old hotel, so the floors creak on the second floor. The bed was too soft for my preference, however, that is different for everyone. The only potential downside is that there is really nothing else around as far as dining options for the evening within walking distance. We ate at the hotel and is was good. If we were going to walk the Wall again, I would stay here because it is so convenient.

Property was in a great location on the river with lovely views. Staff were very helpful. The bar and restaurant at the property looked like they had been refurbished. The food was good and the staff were nice although our order did get messed up on one of the nights. On the negative side the room we were given was very old and dated and needed some work. There was no TV remote (we did report this but they didn't have any extra's that worked) and the bathroom had seen better days. The room looked nothing like the pictures on Expedia. We were only there for 2 nights but would have complained if we had booked a longer stay.

We had a nice stay, the food was lovely. The leisure facilities could do with an update. We enjoyed using the pool and steam room but it was a pity the sauna was out order.

Review of Hotel XYZ: My stay at this hotel was nothing short of disappointing.i didn’t even stay I checked straight back out it was filthy From the moment I walked in, it was evident that the establishment was outdated and poorly maintained. The room I was assigned to was uncomfortably cold, and the state of the bathroom was appalling – I wouldn't be surprised if the mold had its own lease agreement. To make matters worse, the pool area was far from inviting; it was downright disgusting. The pool itself seemed like it hadn't been cleaned in ages, and to my horror, the changing room was infested with slugs. Needless to say, I promptly turned around and left without even considering a dip, got my bags and booked another hotel! In conclusion, I strongly advise against booking a stay at this hotel Its deplorable conditions make it an unsuitable choice for any traveler seeking a comfortable and hygienic accommodation experience.

Room was comfortable enough but the food standard was very poor - i would compare it to McDonald's, very low quality & served colder than room temperature. When i complained about this the food was replacedin full, but still to the undercooked standard & had obviously been nuked to death in a microwave to ensure the temperature was burning hot to the mouth. Breakfast wasn't any better, buffet style & all precooked and reheated but still cold, in fact the cold milk fot the cereals was warmer. For the pricepaid for bbem (£87.50), i for one will notbe booking here again.

Nice, clean and welcoming place to stay
Very nice and comfortable hotel with some great foods on the menu. Room clean and spacious. Only issue we had was the jacuzzi was cold and the changing rooms could do with some heating, but it was January. All in all a nice place and I will be visiting again

It must be 30 years since we last stayed at The George and that was when it was a Swallow Hotel! Last minute booking and very pleased with our stay, gad a room that overlooked the river, the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was a buffet and a good variety was available. Staff were friendly and attentivive. They informed us it was soon to be renovated so we'll look forward to what it will become! Our next visit will be a lot sooner than 30 years!

The setting of the George is quite idyllic and, as on previous visits, there is a welcoming atmosphere. The beds and shower facilities were also fine. However, many aspects were poor and represent further overall deterioration. The washbasin in the en suite was severely cracked and had been amateurishly filled. We felt unable to use it and saw it as a health hazard. The bodging of the splashback tiles was even worse. The toilet handle was loose, as was the toilet seat. The main room carpet had not been vacuumed. The radiator paint was peeling off and looked awful. One of the tea/coffee mugs had tea drip stains on the outside. The bar food was decidedly mediocre, though not cheap. I tried a pint of the one draught beer available and it was undrinkable. The barman allowed me a pint of keg beer as a replacement but insisted that there was nothing wrong with the draught beer and that it was the best in the area. He seems a nice man but has no idea of how to look after real ale and what it should look/taste like. As with the problems in the room, the staff response was superficially pleasant but resolutely defensive and in denial. This was our third visit to a potentially great hotel but the experience has got progressively worse and, sadly, we won’t be back.

Fantastic location
The hotel was situated in a lovely quiet location near to the river. The views from the garden were stunning. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was great. The facilities were good everything we needed, restaurant, bar and pool if required. Would definitely recommend. Great value for money.

A very dissapointing hotel. Pool was ok but changing rooms were dirty and a very poor shower. Our room had black mould around windows and shower, and toilet and glass shelf were dusty so obviously not been cleaned properly before we arrived. Beds were really comfy till i discovered a very unpleasant mark on my sheet. Which the receptionist had to change!! Stayed a week and in all that time we didnt see any cleaners at all serving any room. Breakfast was ok but very basic. Had to use room towels for pool and then wait at reception to get them replaced. Location was lovely and very central for all we wanted to do, ideal for a walking base. How this is 3 star i will never know. Did have a lovely pizza from the bar menu one night. Staff were friendly enough but seem to be stretched the whole time. This could be a lovely place, but it needs a lot of more attention to detail. Ok if your a walker staying 1 or2 nights but not for a weeks holidays. On the face of it all was good but a very tatty hotel that needs more staff and care. Gardens could be beautiful but there unkempt. Would not be recommending this hotel.

The hotel is nice. Somewhat outdated and needs a bit more attention to detail with regard to room cleaning. Restaurant and staff were great. Excellent breakfast.

Beautiful location, pool & Gym
Great location & good for sunset drink outside, on riverside. Loved the Pool and gym and enjoyed good food at the restaurant . Comfy lounges for meeting fellow guests. Highly recommend staying here.

On arrival the George hotel is situated on the path for Hadrian’s wall and located on the river Tyne north with outstanding views looking over the river the garden is beautiful with plenty of sitting areas to enjoy the views, staff throughout where excellent very pleasant and made you feel welcome the room was very clean especially the shower room the beds where very comfortable to sleep in with options to have more pillows should you require the evening meal was very nice my only concern was I wish we was spread out more within the dining room as we was early to arrive for dinner the room was still empty with lots of tables to choose from but we was placed right next to a couple which made privacy a little difficult, but overall my stay was excellent and credit to staff who work very hard to make sure our stay was pleasant, and the pool and leisure facilities where ample enough for us and met are requirements, we shall be returning again in the future.

We stayed in a superior room, but this is a deceptive description. The bed head a Grange around it that was so high it was impossible to get in or out of it without having the thick bar painfully sticking in your legs. We stayed 2 nights and did not have our room cleaned on the second day. When we complained reception said we should have been told that we needed to put the sign on the door (which we were not told) and the cleaners had now gone home. They did deliver clean towels. Considering the room had recently been redecorated the TV aerial also did not work, and it seemed nobody had actually tested the room. The pool and spa area are very old and tired, looking grubby and crusty around the drains and jacuzzi switches. The george is a very average hotel and not worth the cost of the rooms. We would not stay again
