It was a very relaxing retreat with beautiful views. We enjoyed the fresh fruit on the property which was in season during our stay. John and Maggie were excellent hosts, answered our questions and made our stay memorable. We would definitely stay here again.
Tranquil green property with privacy, and a great hot tub! Had all the amenities, a great comfortable king bed, and some lovely art in the cottage. Maggie and John were gracious hosts. We really enjoyed our stay and would come back. Mahalo!
Ualani is a wonderful place to stay if you enjoy a serene beautiful setting. We loved it!
Maggie and John were exceptional hosts and responded to our request in a timely manner.
The property is shared with Maggie and John’s place and another VRBO rental but there was plenty of privacy for everyone.
We would definitely stay there again.
The house had everything needed for a relaxing stay, a little out of the way but well worth it. A nice big yard to stroll around, a nice view, my Son and Daughter-in-law enjoyed the hot tub.
We stayed for about a week with our two small kids. It was a wonderful place to stay! The drive to and from the place is beautiful, curving though the jungle. The place is clean and comfortable. Comfortable beds too! We are super happy with our stay. The property is gorgeous!
Beautiful location and house.
Everything was as the pictures with amenities like a hot tub, grill and washer and dryer. Quiet, cool and private. We loved our week here and will come here again when we can get the chance!
We loved our stay. Highlights include relaxing in outdoor hot tub at the end of a long day, breezes, bird sounds, beautiful grounds, and friendly hosts. We enjoyed the proximity to the start to the road to Hana, and food in Makawao. Also went on a great hike in the Makawao Forest Reserve. This is a great location if you are looking for some quiet (compared to some of the busier sections of island).
We enjoyed our stay. It was a good location. Close to many of the places we wanted to visit. The cottage was comfortable and well equipped. The only exception was the beds . They weren't very comfortable.
This house was great! Cutely decorated and very comfortable. Lovely views with lush greenery around. Quick, easy access to Paia and the Road to Hana. Maggie was helpful and attentive to our questions. We didn't get to enjoy the hot tub but this was a great place to relax, listen to the rain, and watch the geckos hunt for bugs on the porch.
This property is so beautiful. The owners are very responsive to messages. There is beach equipment to use. The chorus of roosters and birds to wake you up is the best. If you're looking for something off the beaten path (about an hour from Lahaina, right near the start of road to Hana), this is the place for you! We will definitely look for availability of we return to Maui. Thank you John and Maggie!
Where do I begin?! John and Maggie were outstanding hosts and their beautiful fur-babies especially Grace. We enjoyed peace, times for reflections, and privacy. Our flight left around midnight, and the host offered a room in their home to assist with the long wait, but we still had things on the island we wanted to checkout plus turn in the rental. Such a perfect vacation to the point that we didn't want to leave. Thank you J & M.
My friend and I stayed here for four nights and it was amazing. The property is beautifully kept. The hosts were very nice and greeted us and let us know they were here if we needed anything.
The cottage was very clean! Everything was well stocked and they provided extra towels and supplies as needed.
The hot tub is a great bonus and it was amazing to be in the hot tub overlooking their lush property.
If you want a more relaxing experience this is the place to go! It’s a bit of a drive to other parts of the island but we didn’t mind at all especially since the property was so worth it. I posted pictures of it and so many friends and family wanted to know about it since it offers a more private and relaxing experience than staying at a resort or condo.
Highly recommended and would stay here again!
Property is in a beautiful setting, well maintained and has the basic necessities needed for a successful stay. The lush, green surroundings along with the exotic morning birdsong concert made for a peaceful start to the day.
There are a few drawbacks of the location: there is a quite busy road right by the house with noisy cars and trucks speeding by and compromising the otherwise serene setting. It is also impossible to take a walk on the neighborhood roads, as it is too dangerous with the roads having no shoulder.
Wow, just wow. So peaceful, quiet, wonderful view down the yard to the ocean, complete privacy (bamboo and other trees separate the cottage from other houses; we only knew we had neighbors because of the car parked near that house). A nicely stocked kitchen, comfy beds, responsive hosts who provided nice shopping and restaurant suggestions. Very close to Hana Hwy so great for accessing it and the trails and views along it. Also close to Macawao and Paia, good restaurants and shopping. The grocery in nearby Haiku is perfect, with tasty local foods. Easy access to Lahaina and Maalaea for whale watching and snorkeling tours. Such a wonderful place to come back to at the end of a day (we started calling it home), and such a warm and beautiful place to stay when rain interferes with hiking! You will not regret staying here instead of noisier, busier places.
nice up-country lodging for those looking to get away & unplug
GOOD: Quiet, private setting just about a mile off the highway at the start of the Road to Hana. Cooler temperatures by a few degrees than along the coastal areas, with nice breezes. We are pretty hot by nature, and we were okay without A/C. Lots of books and some board games were provided. Very scenic views. Close proximity to JAWS Country Store.
NOT SO GOOD: With all of the surrounding vegetation, numerous small bugs (plus a couple of really tiny lizards) were our shared houseguests. The bathroom fan didn't seem to work, so it got really steamy in there in no time. The mattress in one bedroom was pretty lumpy.
We loved this little house. It was a perfect place to stay. We felt like locals rather than tourists. It’s a beautiful property and we loved how much cooler it was on this part of the island. Wind chimes tinkled on the breeze and between that wind and the ceiling fans we were never too hot. It was a great kitchen to cook in and we bbq’d almost every night. It saves a lot of money not eating out for every meal. In the morning we woke to the sound of doves and silly roosters. We did have quite the ant problem the first day or two so we were very careful to put all our food in the fridge and kept the kitchen clean. Sharper knives would have made things easier but these are minor things. We would absolutely stay here again. We wish we didn’t have to leave!
