Pretty Cottage, great location.
Very well equipped and cosy (full and helpful instructions). Superb relaxing and quiet location. Beautiful beach and sand dunes were easily walkable. Pub and local amenities close by. We all enjoyed our stay, including the dog.

Beautiful cottage in wonderful village
Compass cottage is a beautiful country they cottage with ample of space for a family of four. Everything was immaculate on arrival and well equipped. They even gave us a lovely welcome package:-) We went in winter but there is a lovely conservatory and enclosed garden so great for sitting out for a drink. The location is perfect a stones throw from the village pub, the fish and chips shop and local store and a short walk to the dunes and beach of Winterton on sea. Highly recommend a visit to Winterton and to compass cottage.

A great place to stay
A beautiful property, had everything we needed. The Host even put up a Christmas Tree for us which was very kind and a lovely welcome pack, really enjoyed our Christmas break. Pub a few minutes walk away, dog friendly and great food. We could not go on Winterton Beach due to the high seal population but you could walk on Hemsby which was beautiful. Norwich City Centre Beautiful, would definately book again in this property. Thank you Samantha.

What a great cottage in a great location.... everything about the cottage was fantastic, will defo be returning at some point..... Tea and Coffee, milk, biscuits and 2 bottles of wine waiting on arrival.... Really nice cottage would highly recommend

Fabulousl comfy cottage
Had a fabulous week stay. Have stayed in this cottage several times. It's a warm cosy place to return to after walks on the beach and over the dunes. Everything is catered for all your needs. Situated right in the heart of the village with lovely dog friendly pub, fish and chip shop, post office and general store.

Lovely cottage
Our 3rd visit to this cottage and the lovely village of Winterton on Sea. Had sunshine and showers but it didn’t affect our stay. Lovely walks along the beach and dunes watching the seals. Our dog Milly enjoys her holiday here. Would recommend the cottage and village for a quiet and relaxing stay. Will be back hopefully next year.

Perfect location
Lovely cottage with good sized garden and very well equipped kitchen. Had almost everything we needed. Wine, milk and chocolates were a welcome suprise. Some hooks on back of bedroom doors for dressing gowns would be useful. Second bedroom very tight for space..twin bed against wall and next one right up against it, taking up most of floor space so no room for a wardrobe, would be better as a single room. Location fab. A few steps from pub and shop, chip shop and post office/ tearoom 1 minute walk,with beach about a7 minutes walk. Very pretty village.

Excellent in every aspect but one
Cleanlliness, equipment, warmth, comfort, location all brilliant. It is just that the twin bedroom is really a single. There are 2 beds that can be used as double but there is no space alongside one of them. At the foot of the beds there is only room for one person to stand and change but no wardrobe space..

Delightful cottage
A lovely warm and cosy cottage. Everything you need has been provided for,for a trouble free stay. Situated in the heart of the village,close to the beach and dunes, fish and chip shop, pub and a couple of shops, one with a lovely cafe.

A very comfortable property and perfectly located. It is across the road from the Fisherman's Return pub, 2 minutes from the shops and chippy. It is just a couple of minutes walk from the dunes which is perfect for walking the dogs. The property was warm and well provided with all the expected facilities including a large fridge freezer, washer/tumble dryer and large smart tv. Two comfortable sofas in the lounge as well as dining room furniture. The downstairs shower could be a little temperamental but overall an excellent property for a peaceful Christmas break

Perfect getaway!
Compass cottage is spacious, very comfortable and has everything you need. It’s in a perfect location, the village is quiet and everyone is friendly. The cottage is close to the beach and dunes, so lots of nice walks on the doorstep. We felt so at home we didn’t want to leave! Owners are helpful and will resolve any problems quickly. Welcome goodies were much appreciated…..thank you, we will be back.

Strange layout upstairs
The downstairs of the cottage was superb, plenty of space and comfortable seating arrangements and a downstairs bathroom. However we were very disappointed with the layout upstairs. We were a party of adults, all 65+. The main bedroom had loads of space with plenty of storage, but access to a bathroom entailed having to go downstairs, not good for use during the night. The second bedroom contained 2 single beds in a room more or less the same size of the space taken up by the 2 beds. One was right up against the external wall with the second bed butting right next to the other one. Storage space was really non existent! It comprised of one bedside table with 2 shelves and at the foot of the beds there was what I could only describe as a bench with 4 open shelves underneath. The ensuite was accessed by a sliding door to a quite snug shower, toilet and wash basin. We felt the space in the ensuite could have been minimised to give much needed extra space to the very cramped bedroom. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the cottage but were all disappointed in the issues upstairs and felt the description should include details of the layout. This would allow others to get an accurate picture of issues which may affect them should they choose this otherwise great property.

Our second stay at Compass cottage and our third visit to Winterton. We were lucky to have gorgeous weather with sunshine everyday. Our Border Terrier Milly loved her long walks along the beach and we saw the largest group of seals basking in the sun. Hopefully we will be back next year to stay again at this lovely cottage.

We had a lovely stay at campass cottage, it’s in a great location with lots of walks on the doorstep. We will definitely rebook for next year. The only downside was no side or rear entrance for wet and muddy paws also no outside tap to rinse sand off the dogs.

An Absolutely wonderful property in a great location just 5 min walk to the beach and a stones throw from the Fishermans Return. It has ample parking for 2 cars. Inside it's spacious with a nice size kitchen but still remains cosy. The shingled garden is a nice size and larger than it appears in the photos. It has everything you could wish for so many little extras, for us it's a definite one to book our future visits to Winterton-on-Sea although next year we have already booked Beachside but we will definitely be returning 😊 Thanks for the opportunity to stay. I was recommended Winterton-on-Sea by a colleague and was not disappointed. Compass Cottage was clean, spacious and like a home from home. Before going to Compass Cottage we said like it would be the sort of place we could live. Since staying there, we want to move to Winterton-on-Sea. Compass Cottage provided everything possible for a family to enjoy a great holiday. Rainy day entertainment, buckets & spades, as well as other beach games. And the garden was private and perfect for those with dogs. The village is a perfect location to relax with a fantastic beach that is not overcrowded,. A fantastic fish and chip shop with the freshest fish We have tasted. Poppy’s cafe which provided the best food available wether breakfast or lunch. The only fly in the ointment, which is what I was looking forward to most, was the Fisherman’s Return. We went in there for an early evening meal (and I was looking forward to he local beers on tap!). However, the staff were very rude as soon as we walked in and after sitting down briefly, thought that the inflated prices (which we were prepared to pay) were not worth paying due to the rudeness of staff. We ended up at The Grayling in Great Yarmouth where the staff were very friendly, the food was very good and we had a much better experience. That said, Compass Cottage is ideal for a family holiday, with a very private garden (good for dogs) and ideal walking distance to a great beach (where you can see seals in the sea), a great local cafe, fish and chip shop (the taste of the fresh fish is amazing) and a great host in Samantha.. Hemsby is a 5-10 minute drive away with arcades, gift shops and places to eat including a Kebab shop. I don’t really eat Doner kebabs, but the lamb meat was of high quality and not fatty. Despite the abrupt service, Tasty Kebab in Hemsby was very good. Well done Samantha, we will definitely return. Compass Cottage is a lovely place for a very relaxing, ideally located holiday. Thank you.

It's a hidden gem!
Compass Cottage in Winterton-on-Sea is a wonderful place to stay.It's clean, well-decorated and welcoming. We have stayed there 6 or 7 times before and we will back in 2023!

This is our second stay at Compass cottage, blessed with amazing weather. Location is excellent with so many walks on the door step. Detached cottage with own drive, quiet and a sun trap of a garden that is fully dog proof & secure, rest assured I am obsessive as our terrier would be gone. Fenced high and no way a dog could escape. Kitchen well equipped, plenty of instant hot water and powerful shower upstairs. The biggest downfall again is the cleanliness - the dust and cobwebs are NOT recent, windows in need of a good clean in and out, dust all over the windows too, blinds filthy, patio door glass blown. Sofa is showing huge wear and tear - feeling springs and needing a deep clean. Floors not clean either. Such a shame as the bedding & towels which is taken away by a company are excellent but evident that the time given to clean is not enough and deep cleans need to be more frequent. We had a fab week though in Winterton on Sea :)

Thank you for your review and take onboard where we fell short of the normal high standards. The cottage was closed for 2 weeks after your visit to allow redecorating and a deep clean, this should bring the cottage back up to standard , the window cleaning and deep cleaning frequency has also been increased. Enjoyable stay
Just returned home after staying for Christmas with friends and our dogs. Property suited us very well. Plenty of space and more than enough utensils in kitchen. Our only criticism is second bedroom a tight fit for adults, but we coped. Unfortunately the coast line on the beach has eroded so unable to get on beach unless you fancied a 30min walk. We drove to Sea palling instead.

Wonderfully peaceful village retreat 5 minutes away from the beach and Norfolk coastal path. The cottage is equipped with everting you could need and the moment we stepped through the door we felt relaxed and comfortable. Highly recommend and will definitely be back again!

Absolutely hidden gem!
Love this property and location in this wonderful village. We've stayed here numerous time over the last 6 years and absolutely love it. The house is kitted out to make it homely and comfortable without it feeling like someone else's house. We've stayed in others in this row and this is by far the best! The layout, the added extras like dressing gowns and the owner/manager on hand to answer any queries/issues (not that we've had any)... a few spider webs could do with a clean but ultimately its a cottage and they were NOT offensive. Love it!!
