"This apartment had the most surreal views! It was lovely and clean and comfortable as well. It’s a shared space but you have your own room and bathroom and the other guests were nice and didn’t disturb us at all. But the reason we rate this place so highly is because of the incredible host, Ludgero. We got in an unfortunate accident on our first day (please drive carefully on the roads) and our host offered to pick us up from the hospital and checked in with us the next day. "Santa Maria Maior was just as described and in a perfect location. We were minutes from the cable car and many wonderful restaurants and bars. Patricia greeted us and explained everything about the apartment and some tips regarding the area. She was delightful. Olivier checked to ensure everything went smoothly and wished us a farewell. As Americans living in Portugal I would recommend this apartment."

"No complaints at all about this hotel. It was definitely worth paying the extra to stay in the old building and have access to the terrace. Breakfasts were lovely."

"Hotel was centrally located in downtown Funchal. A five minute walk to the city centre. Room was spacious with a balcony overlooking the street. Breakfast buffet was excellent with a variety of hot and cold options. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Pool deck on the rooftop was a great place to unwind at the end of the day. I would have preferred the pool bar to be open however it wasn’t and it was a very minor inconvenience to get the elevator down to the main bar on level 0. If you are using a rental car I would suggest you confirm a parking place with the hotel (20 euro per day) as parking is very limited in the area. I will definitely stay here again!!"

"great hotel and all the staff were amazing Bit hilly but buggies very useful room and swim up pool lovely preference club lounge great and lots of choices of drinks and snacks tried to majority of specialist restaurants and enjoyed them all main bar a problem with long wait times to get served but enjoyed trying all the options which were well made by experienced staff on checkout appears someone used the shuttle bus into capital and charged to our room, were not forced to pay but a not a nice experience to prove we never used the bus as we had a car"

"The hotel was nice, I wish the showers had doors because I accidentally stepped on the wet floor and I fell. The hotel is clean and well kept but when you walk outside smells like a septic tank. I think is the street sewer nothing to do with the hotel but around noon the smell is pretty strong. I think the pool downstairs could be a bit better it looked green not blue the water was probably clean but it made it look dirty from the top balconies down in comparison to the hotels next door. The breakfast was very good, lots of options and changed very day, it was clean and organized . The room was done every day sometimes they would forget the towels but they would replace them right away. I had a two bed room and the beds were a bit small for a large or tall person . The bar drinks were great they had everything."
