Citadines Waterfront Kota Kinabalu

10/10 Excellent
"Great swimming pool with view of the sunset. The 24 hour gym is very nice. The restaurant on the 6th floor on the same floor as the gym and pool is very good too, though a bit expensive for what you get. They did allow substitutions, for example substituting a fried chicken sandwich for a grilled chicken sandwich, and having sauces on the side. You just have to ask them for this. The ground floor restaurant is more affordable, but most of the dishes serve fried meat, so it’s not a good choice for health conscious eaters. The bed was very comfortable, though not long enough for taller people, which resulted in my feet hanging off the end. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The location is excellent, with so many places within walking distance, be it outdoor fresh fish restaurants, night markets, during street, jetties for boat excursions, etc. What’s nice too is in the lobby there is kind of a small mall, with an Orange convenience store, a souvenir shop, and chocolate shop, a Burger King, and a terrific Cantonese style fish restaurant. It’s nice sometimes to not go out in the heat and have a nice meal. I found that the fish restaurant was the best place to eat in the hotel and mall complex. Nearby within walking distance are large shopping malls, including a place called Wisma Merdeka, which is the best place to change money. Be warned though , that this downtown area is dirty and maybe even scary to some, so take that into consideration."

Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu

Shangri-La Rasa Ria, Kota Kinabalu

10/10 Excellent
"A very well appointed hotel to relax and explore Sabah, Borneo. The staff could not be more personable and attentive, which transformed our experience and made it very special for our break. The breakfast is plentiful and well arrayed, covering Asian and Western Cuisine. The pool side lunch is reasonable in offering, and while we did not opt for dinner, the choice of restaurants were ample for a 4 night stay. The garden wing room was well sized for a family, and the housekeeping staff have thought of all the needs for modern travel. The location is about a 45 minute drive from the airport and the main city, which did not affect our needs but some might find a bit remote. The adjoining rasa ria reserve was quite special and the choice of activities on offer is fantastic. The daytime entertainment at the poolside is really good. With fond memories, we would definitely comeback."

"The shower alternative tap did not work. And water temperature was either quite hot or cool. Water pressure for showering was low too. But the bidet’s water pressure was super strong! So, taking a shower & using the bidet was quite a challenge. Perhaps it’s time to use more sustainable shower management that feels satisfying yet saving water. Breakfast was adequate, but could improve a little with coffee: offer cold fresh milk instead of milk powder. Might want to consider offering local Sabahan breakfast? Location is excellent- walking distance to convenience stores & restaurants. Room was clean, soundproof, and beds excellent - helps a lot in getting some peaceful sleep. Staff were exceptionally welcoming, friendly and efficient. Keep up the great work!"

It's famous for its beautiful sunsets and the popular Tanjung Aru Beach. The main road here, Jalan Tanjung Aru, is lined with hotels and resorts that offer direct beach access or stunning sea views. You'll find a range of dining options from casual local eateries to more upscale restaurants within walking distance or a short taxi ride.Families often find Tanjung Aru an excellent choice due to its proximity to the beach and recreational facilities. Many resorts in this area feature large swimming pools, children's clubs, and easy access to water sports, providing plenty of activities for all ages. When is the best time to go to Ganang?
The best time to go to Ganang is during the dry season, which runs from March to October. This period offers consistently sunny days and lower humidity, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and enjoying outdoor activities. You'll find the weather superb for island hopping, diving, and trekking through the rainforests. The seas are also calmer, which is excellent for boat trips and water sports. For those planning to climb Mount Kinabalu, the dry season provides the most favourable conditions, with clearer skies and less risk of rain affecting the trails. Even during peak season, early mornings are usually bright and clear, with any rain typically occurring in the late afternoon. This allows for comfortable and enjoyable ascents. While November to February is the wet season, it can still be a good time to visit for those who don't mind occasional rain showers.
