The Sachsenhausen area offers some ofthe quieter, more unique and more intimate charms that Frankfurt has to offer.Take a day to explore its cobblestone walkways and enjoy its nostalgicarchitecture. Visit its museums, enjoy the sunset from a tower, and then spenda night bar hopping in one the city’s most enchanting locations.

In the northeast side of theneighbourhood, find the historical Affentorplatz. Here, the narrow cobblestonewalkways take you back in time. Bars and restaurants line the streets, so takea seat on a hot summer day. Be sure to order an apple wine here for one of thebest brews of the well-known Frankfurt specialty.

Take your time exploring theMuseumsufer, or Museum Embankment, along the south bank of the Main River. Hereyou’ll find the city’s main collection of museums. Art enthusiasts will enjoythe traditional exhibitions of fine art at the Städel Museum while the curiouswill find niche exhibits at one of many intriguing specialty institutions.Visit the Icon Museum to see a collection of religious icons from the 16thcentury onwards. Alternatively, take a moment to learn about telephone andpostal services at the Museum for Communication, which alsohosts an enormous stamp collection.

For a panoramic view of the city, headto the Goetheturm (Goethe Tower) which sits in a small forest on the southernedge of Sachsenhausen. This soaring 43-metre (141-foot) tower just on the edgeof the farmland south of town provides a spectacular view of the inner-cityskyline. Look south for a photogenic view of expansive forests and pleasantcountryside just outside of Frankfurt’s city limits. Though entry to the toweris free, be prepared to face many flights of stairs!

Get to and around Sachsenhausen via theU-Bahn, the S-Bahn and the tram, which run around the neighbourhood frequently.The Goethe Tower is not catered for by public transport so be sure to leaveenough time to walk there and back.
