Pleasant place for a short family stay
We had a perfectly fine one night stay at the Mt Cook View. Lodgings were adequate, about what you expect for the price in New Zealand. Check in was quick and easy and the guy at check in was welcoming. Neighbors had a crying baby, I was just grateful it wasn't my kid for once. I like the location, a bit out of town but very convenient to whatever there is in Fox Glacier (not much, tbh). Lake Mathewson is a very convenient drive just up the road. We didn't use the spa pool, it's just a bathtub with jets after all. I'm developing a personal disliking for places that ask me to wash my dishes, because I usually end up washing the last guy's dishes over again (I can never really trust that they've done a good job) before use, and it seems like I'm not really staying away from home at all. A lot of places ask this now, so I suppose it's not a big deal. But how long before they ask me to wash linens and remake the beds on checkout too? Anyway, for what it is, I'd stay in the Mt Cook View again, price always trumps nearly everything else for these travelers - right up there with cleanliness - and this place has both.
