Lovely property, lovely staff. Abi ,the manager was so accomodating . The room was clean , comfy and quiet. They offered everything that you would need for a pleasant stay. Highly recommend this gem !

Fox Glacier is a very small town so don’t expect much in terms of either hotel or restaurant options. This hotel is a nice spot with friendly/helpful staff and clean, modern rooms. Only (small) complaint about the room I had is that the bathroom is very small (but otherwise functional).

Very old dated dirty. Staff not friendly at all. The bathroom had been done up but not well. Door lock didn’t work properly. Very few car parking spaces. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

Great place to stay but we left a very expensive pillow and some medication in the room which we rang and asked about immediately but there has been no help to try and find those items / get them returned - assume taken possession of by the cleaners or staff

A Rustic Retreat in the Footsteps of Giants

The Heartland Hotel is a place where time seems to slow down and nature takes center stage. My recent stay there was a delightful mix of charming quirks and unexpected gems. The hotel wears its age with pride, within its weathered walls lies a warmth that seeps into your bones. My room was a bit small but comfortable and you can relax after a day of trekking through glacial valleys. The hotel's location is a short stroll to a hidden glow worm forest. the area has a very Limited dining options unlike franz Josef. the hotel is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts who value rustic charm and nature's raw beauty.

The hotel is in a general state of disrepair. Exterior is dirty and in need or repairs to walls and flooring. Walls are thin and main door had a gap in the frame which made the room noisy. No Netflix 😥 A lack of a ramp means heavy luggage has to be hauled up the stairs 😱

Stay was pretty good, the chap on reception who greeted me on arrival was rude and not welcoming. We had an issue with the tv remote not working properly, and he refused to give my husband new batteries instead making sure that it worked which is fair. He stood in front of the tv and it worked, but wouldn’t work 3 feet away. Was a rude twerp and not suited to front of house work.

Great condition Reception staff require more attention for FIT guests and hotel could do better in this regard Roof maintenance required ie clean grass from spouting before it becomes a real winter problem FIT travellers expect a hair drier for guests - we aren’t all international guests

Convenient and welcoming

Convenient location, very clean and a very comfortable bed. A nice touch to provide fresh milk in the fridge for use with the tea and coffee provided. The shower gel, shampoo etc. were also really good quality! I arrived on a rainy, overcast day, after a long motorcycle ride, so it was great to find the room toasty warm!

Lovely place to visit ,too bad our helicopter was cancelled due to weather conditions ,however we used that time to explore by running at Te Weheka walkway and Lake Matheson.

A clean hotel on main street

Since there are not many hotels in Fox so can't compare much. However Heartland Hotel Glacier Country is a choice for you which won't be disappointed. It's located on the main street which easily find restaurant, groceries store, postbox, tour company nearby. I know Fox is small but location is particularly important in winter or snowy rainy day. Room is a bit small but clean. Reception is professional and friendly.
