Wherever you're jetting in from, flying can be a seamless experience if you're well prepared. We've compiled a list of handy travel tips that will get your Gap holiday started on the right foot. What to pack in your hand luggage:

• Air travel can be a cruisy experience if you take the right things. Firstly, you'll need toiletry items, such as toothpaste, a toothbrush and some deodorant, a spare set of clothes and a few magazines. Next, find room in your carry-on bag for your phone, tablet and chargers, any medications and maybe a comfy neck pillow too. Lastly, and most importantly, don't forget to bring your passport, travel documents and your credit cards.

Do not pack the following items in your hand luggage:

• Make sure you don't have sharp objects (like a knife or scissors) hiding in one of the compartments of your hand luggage. Other banned items include explosive or flammable products, such as fuel and matches, and gels and liquids in containers with a capacity of more than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres).

What to wear on a flight:

• Comfort should be your number one priority when deciding what to wear during your flight. Loose, breathable clothing is a sensible option, as are flat, closed-toe shoes.
• The result of sustained periods of immobility, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a blood clot condition that can affect some passengers during long flights. Lower your risks by drinking water, keeping your legs and feet moving and wearing compression socks to help improve your circulation.

It's simple — be prepared. We've put together some tips and tricks for a fuss-free trip through airport security. Watch out Gap, here you come:

• First things first. Your travel documents and passport will need to be inspected by airport security personnel. Keep them someplace accessible to avoid fumbling around for them.
• The X-ray machine comes next. Empty your pockets and remove anything metal that is likely to set off the scanner's alarm. This includes items like earphones or headphones, as well as your coat or jacket. They'll need to be placed on the conveyor belt for screening.
• For just a few minutes, you'll have to unplug from technology. Your tablet, phone and any other electronic devices will also need to go through the scanner.
• Remember to remove gels and liquids from your carry-on bag. They often need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately. Each product should be in a container no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 millilitres) and everything must fit inside a quart-size (one litre), clear zip-close bag.

• Knives and other sharp items are prohibited in the cabin. They'll be seized at security, so put them in your checked baggage.
