Great place if you need a bed for the night as has free parking and is walkable to the city centre. It’s a very old building, so a bit dated but clean and comfortable. Feel safe here as a solo female traveller and I stay here whenever I’m in Dunedin.

Room was very small, nowhere to open one suitcase let alone two. It was clean though! Building is older but to be expected. Parking is across a busy road with no lights/cross walk and lot is very rough/ uneven so not the most user friendly. The elevator is rickety but works!

For economy accommodation it was exactly as expected, clean and basic. For location it was perfect, close to the museum and walking distance to the octagon and cafe's and restaurants

The photos of the rooms on the website in no way resembled the room we had on level 4. It was so old and shabby, the windows tiny and there was not even any milk in the fridge. The dude at the reception seemed to think we were more of an inconvenience than guests, and complained about someone on the phone he'd been talking to about a booking. This would make a totally OK Youth Hostel. But hotel it is not. The location is great, but the price is well over the top compared with what we could have got elsewhere - and I would have booked elsewhere had we known what little care and attention there would be during our stay. Would not book again.

I booked the Leviathan Hotel because of its historic value and we enjoyed looking around the hotel. We enjoyed eating in the hotel, and it was very close to the railroad station which we walked around in the evening.

Worst hotel in New Zeland, unclean bathroom and unusable toilet paper dispenser and, shower with only hot water and the rudest staff at the reception.

They offer house keeping which we had to continue to ask for towels and to vacum and even tiolet paper,i did get a discounted deal but due to the funeral we were there for i had book a extra 2 nights,which cost almost the same as the 3 night.due to disablities we were asured close to elivator,which it wasnt,and the disabled shower chair was completly broken.on a positive note,a beautiful building,lovely court yard,and the desk staff were lovely.the cleaners where very slack.it was a shame.

I was on a budget and needed somewhere to sleep for the night. This place has an olde world charm and frankly, I was surprised. So close to the central city, free parking and down to earth service. If your looking for marble basins and a bedit look elsewhere. This place suited me well. I will definitely stay here again.

We had a quiet room overlooking the courtyard, with its beautiful flowering trees. The staff were all so friendly and helpful; we felt very welcome. Will definitely stay again.

It is a beautiful building and the room I was in was perfect. Looking out of our window into the courtyard makes it look like the place is run down. I know the upkeep is good. Just difficult to understand why it looks this way.

A nice surprise. Instead of taking the lift to my room, I walked around and discovered the charms of this historic property. The huge sitting room with great views, the period dining room, the grandfather clock. The room and facilities were basic, but that was expected for the price. Good location for the town centre and for walking around the older industrial and university living areas. If I were in Dunedin again, I’d definitely return here to stay.

We chose with bath tub to heal our tired legs from walking. We payed 175 NZ for that but we couldn’t make it. Good! • FREE car parking. EASY to park. • Suite room has nice church view . Especially at night. Disappointed • Water was so reddish brown. I didn’t drink water . So scary. I have never experienced that at any accommodations. • When I turned on the jet bath , so many black things comes out from jet. • Front desk The man said to me Write your address harshly. No please no thank you . I found NZ people their country and natures . I saw many people working hard . But I didn’t see in this hotel. If only this historical hotel had been treated and mended more carefully …… So different from a historical hotel in England. If someone wants to try unique hotel, you should try this hotel.
