Our First impression was how sparklingly clean and fresh everything was! A lot of work has been done to make this annex like new, and to add little touches to make it stylish and comfortable. The bedroom has a standard sized comfortable double bed, so possibly a bit tight for people who need a lot of sleeping space. The sofa bed is a click clack type double size probably best suited to child/ younger person. Lynne had thoughtfully provided light mattress toppers but it doesn’t have the spring of a regular bed. There isn’t a dishwasher or washing machine (as covered in the description)but other than that, it’s very well equipped with lots of cooking equipment. Lynne is also a very friendly and pleasant hostess.
Grandson loved the plentiful games (yes, Kerplunk! even) though we didn’t spend much time indoors. Located most at Selsey Bill, the sea is just at the end of the road in either direction, with a playground in between. Being at the Bill means you can choose east or west facing beaches depending on the wind. It’s also easily walkable along the seafront path east to the Lifeboat Inn where the home cooked meals are good value and tasty, and there’s a big sun terrace if it’s warm enough, or a family room additional to the bar/lounge. The nearby lifeboat station is interesting and next door, Potters stall serves the best ever crab sandwiches or lots of other freshly caught seafood. Orders can be booked for collection through Messenger!
Selsey is a peninsular so there’s basically one pretty road in, south from the main road, but lots of options are within easy driving distances. We visited Portsmouth historic dockyard twice, stopping at Emsworth for a smashing dinner at the Bluebell Inn,
; West Wittering beach and dinner at the Lamb Inn; crabbing at Dell Quay with dinner at the waterside Crown and Anchor; Bracklesham Bay for fossil hunting and lunch at Billy’s on the Beach. And of course Potters for a shell fish platter and crab sandwiches! Whilst we were there it seemed to be necessary to book everywhere in advance so it’s worth planning. All these places were amazingly within a 30 minute drive.
