The Drake has gone down hill over the last year. The quality of staff, towels, sheets, etc. is pretty embarrassing for ~$400 a night.
Best to avoid and go to some of the newer hotels that have almost the same location in comparison to the lake and Michigan Avenue.
Lovely lobby and wonderful staff - cannot fault either! Rooms however are outdated, shabby and depressing - peeling, dirty wallpaper, shabby bed linens, paper thin towels and 10 mins for hot water to come on in the shower. Absolutely NOT worth the high prices to stay here.
What a beautiful hotel full of history and elegance. I wish that something would have been offered for breakfast. (A croissant, bagel or even toast and fruit). But otherwise the stay was very pleasant and they worked to accommodate my room to be close to my daughter and grandson.
Beautiful and historic hotel. The beds are very comfortable. It’s a vibe. Very opulent and classic if that is what you are looking for. Service is second to none.
The Drake is quintessential Chicago old hotel. The staff was wonderful, shopping and great dining within walking distances.
I will say this is an older hotel with a few issues. My daughter and were so excited to spend a weekend planning for her wedding and walking all around ' the windy city'. I think I spent @350/night for two beds and a view of the Lake. The view was spectacular but the room not so much. The bathroom had cracked tiles, bathtub leaked and there was some sort of major leak over by the air conditioner that completely soiled 1/4 of the carpet. Sadly the hotel was very busy with weddings and staff never made it to room to repair.
Very friendly and helpful from the moment you step on the property. Parking was expensive, to spend $75 a day is ridiculous. I would not mind a one time fee.
The Drake Hotel is an iconic landmark in Chicago (think Plaza Hotel in NYC). If you haven't stayed at the Drake and walked along Michigan Ave. (the Magnificent Mile) and Lake shore Drive with the parks and shoreline of Lake Michigan...without that you just haven't experienced Chicago!
The Drake is always gonna be class and iconic to us. We stayed for my wifes bday, hoping to order in and just enjoy our beautiful view of Lake Shore Drive & Lake. Unfortunately everything was closed on a Friday night. No bar, no Hotel restaurant and no room service. Didnt even have a small fridge to choose drinks from or store some drinks. Its mustve been a cost decision since the hotel seemed so empty. Really hope it never changes but they need to reach out w marketing or something to get people to stay again.
View- 10 ⭐️
Hospitality- 5 (just asking a guy cleaning the bar where we could eat, we got an angry snap)
Cost- 5 cant justify the cost for what we got.
We'll probably go back to staying at the InterCon
We particularly enjoyed the period features of the hotel. Our room itself needed minor decoration works as wallpaper was peeling off in places and paint did not match. Also found a hair slide in room from previous occupant. But nothing major! All in all a great location to stay.

We will definitely come back to The Drake. We had an amazing view of the lake, and the staff are extremely polite and friendly. The food was excellent, however, we didn't like the room service menu. We would have liked to experience afternoon tea, but the price is ridiculous for what it is. Still, I feel it is the best location in Chicago
Very historic! Close to high venue amenities. Could use upgrade on the showewrs.

The Drake has changed since we’ve been coming here over the past ten years and let me say things have changed. The cleanliness is subpar, and the night time upstairs bar is no longer open. Oh and the walls have gotten thinner because we got to listen to our neighbors not only chat blue pills and then use said blue pills. And then the next night some kids checked in next door and we got to listen to them barf all night. Great experience.
