"Run down beyond belief and staff have all the warmth and customer service of Herman Goerring. Seriously, how does anyone give this above two stars?"

"It’s a bit run down and not super convenient. We chose the hotel based on reviews, price and proximity to airport and bus station. It is in a quiet area, there’s what looks like a cute walking path along the river (though we didn’t check it out). But to get anywhere took a LONG time. You really need to pre-plan the airport bus (take the #8 to make it 15 min instead of 1.25 hrs) and getting to the city (Piccadilly line) took 2+ hrs. Getting back took longer."

"After a flight cancellation I made a very last minute reservation for a very late night check-in. Staff was kind and accommodating. Our room was smartly decorated and spacious. Absolutely recommend. "

"This is an extraordinary property – one of a kind. For anyone interested in or pleased by historic milieux this is a must-stay hotel. Features in the grounds date to Anglo-Saxon times and the main building to Tudor times. Even the 1930's changing huts by the pool are heritage-designated. Most of the staff were also excellent, notably the cheerful, accommodating receptionists (we needed an electric space heater as the weather was so unseasonably cold that the ordinary room heating system couldn't cope – this heater was delivered to our room with many apologies). The lads running the cocktail bar were also friendly. "
