"We had a very poor experience at this hotel. Just a one night stay to visit my kids who live in Richmond. The first room had a mechanical issue with an aircon unit in the bedroom that's not pushing good air but making a terrible compressor sound... Couldn't be turned off and so chang d rooms at 4am. The second room, as we entered the room after 4am, had both aircon unit running full blast, very cold. Attempted to adjust thermostat but aircon unit in bedroom would not shut down. Managed to unplug it. Finally, a quiet room that's cold but acceptable. Would not stay here ever again."

"The property could use a deep cleaning. The stairways were filthy. The bed skirt needed to be cleaned. There were stains all over the wall. The bed was comfortable and the staff were attentive."

"The room was spacious and had a comfortable bed, but twice we found long black hair that wasn’t ours on a pillow and the comforter. Our towels had rips in them. One of the bedside lamps had a burned out bulb, and when I went down to the desk to ask for a replacement, there was no one there for a long period of time. I eventually gave up. The alarm on the old-fashioned clock radio in the room surprised us by going off super early in the morning. The lobby and hallways had a weird disinfectant smell. I would not stay here again."

The hotel exudes refinement without feeling stuffy, and it’s easy to see why The Jefferson is a beloved institution in the city. Food and Breakfast:** The breakfast was superb, with a distinct Southern Virginia touch that felt comforting and refined at the same time. I enjoyed Virginia ham for breakfast, and it truly took me to heaven—rich, savory, and perfectly prepared. The menu felt both fresh and thoughtfully curated. Staff and Service:** The staff were outstanding, delivering Southern charm with professionalism and warmth. Each interaction felt personalized, attentive, and genuinely friendly. Rooms and Cleanliness:** The room was immaculate, with classic decor that maintained the hotel’s historic charm while offering modern comforts.
