This beautiful bay sits at the base of Capri’s tallest peak and has impressive sea views and some of the island’s best beaches.

Enjoy a lazy day of tanning and swimming at Marina Piccola, one of Capri’s most popular spots. This small, picturesque bay on the south side of the island is directly opposite the Faraglioni Rocks, which are three large limestone stacks that rise out of the sea within a few feet of the shoreline.

Sunbathe on the bay’s rocky outcrop called Siren’s Rock. According to Greek mythology this is the place where the mermaid-like creatures attempted to seduce Ulysses with their music. Take the steps leading down from the rocks to the sea and swim in the clear water.

Marina Piccola is one of the sunniest spots on the island and is flanked by a steep rock wall that shelters it from the wind. Consequently, the water here is warm for most of the year, even in winter.

Stretch out on the two free public beaches either side of the rock. There are also bathing establishments where you can buy refreshments and rent deck chairs and sun loungers.

During summer take a boat ride from the small landing wharf over to the Faraglioni Rocks. Make sure you bring a camera with you for close-up shots of the huge rock formations. Ask your driver to take you through the arched cavity of the middle stack.

On your return to the bay savour some refreshments at one of the waterside bars or restaurants.

Marina Piccola is loved for its views, clear water and mythological significance. In the peak tourist season the crowds arrive early in the day. Get there by mid-morning at the latest to secure a decent space on the beaches or rocky platform.

The bay is a short walk from the centre of the island along Via Krupp. The road starts beneath the flower-decked terraces of the Gardens of Augustus. If you don’t want to walk, you can catch a bus that stops in the plaza close to the Church of Sant'Andrea. From there, take the short flight of steps that leads to the beach.
