This is a hotel that has seen better days. A long while ago. It has huge potential but feels neglected. My balcony door didn’t lock. I was served raw chicken in the restaurant. It was so quiet as to be soulless. But…..it could be so much more. I would think it makes all its money from the Darts championship and then does nothing the rest of the year. Such a shame.
We were advised breakfast was 7-9.30. We went to breakfast early on Saturday morning as we were on a tight schedule and needed to leave the property by 8.15. We arrived at breakfast at 7.15, expecting to be out by 7.45, unfortunately we were still waiting for the breakfast to be served by 7.30, when we enquired were the hot food was we were told it wasn’t put out until 8am. Had we been informed of this earlier we could have made different plans for breakfast. It was brought out at 7.40, some of it was cold and due to rushing the food, we didn’t enjoy it. Better communication would be preferred to people staying there.
I found this hotel charming and really good value for money. The decor is of its time but for me it matches the style of the building. It's not the most super-modern but the prices are incredibly reasonable and everything I saw was comfortable and clean. Buffet breakfast was delicious and had all the things you would expect. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful - going out of their way to help me and my little girls watch the world cup final on a TV in the lobby when the bar was locked in the morning! Only minor comment: there's nowhere to get a drink during the daytime - the bar doesn't open till the afternoon. In that context, a vending machine to get water and soft drinks would be a welcome addition.

Thanks for staying with us. We appreciate your feedback!
Very poor hygiene. The toilet had faeces under the rim on check in and the divan base had rust coloured stains
Polite staff
Hotel has notices in the room and advertises that it has 24-hour room service but the service ends at 10pm
Over priced hotel
Great stay at a lovely, large, clean and tidy hotel. There is plenty of parking and an on-site restaurant and bar. The rooms are spacious clean and tidy and with a lovely view, overlooking the lake.
love how quite is here next to the lake it’s just what I needed. The staff is lovely and they always been helpful. Near by there are great big parks too with a cafeteria. It’s a great place to get away too if you want peace and quiet. ☺️
20-30 years ago this must have been an super hotel, but it looks/feels like it hasn’t had a penny spent in it for far too long. Things don’t work, some staff obviously hate being there & don’t care - it’s just an awful experience
Decor is way outdated, cobwebs in bathroom, filth round toilet seat hinges, half electrical sockets in room not working, rotten facia over balcony door, Needs a Damn good clean and way overdue an entire maintenance overall, far too expensive for the state of it.
On the upside staff were great, and there is ample parking
Unfortunately the Health and fitness wasn’t available which would have been perfect, a nice swim would’ve made the stay more pleasurable. Wasn’t too impressed with the food , gammon steak looked more like a hoof than a gammon steak . Impressive Hotel although perhaps a little tired looking.
This place is antique, we were only given one bath towel, the shower took 5 minutes for the hot water to kick in and then it had no pressure with very little water coming through.
Breakfast on Sunday finishes at 9:30, got there at 9:10, there was very little left, by the time we sat down and got into our cereal, they started clearing up, had to rush to grab some hot food and toast. Someone turned up at 9:35 and everything had been cleared up
I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN
The hotel felt partly shut down, one person on reception but they seemed to be doing it as an add on to other duties. The decor is dark and tired, the bath had the usual hotel problem of lots of poorly applied sealer to try and stop leaks. The room was only okay, very 1990's corporate but the carpet edges were very dusty and everything needed a freshen up.
The air of indifference at reception is probably reflected in the restaurant so I went to the local pub for dinner and breakfast started too late in the morning for my early start so I cannot say for certain how good or bad it is.
I'm glad I used Clubcard vouchers to pay for my stay as I would have resented paying cash, I won't be returning.
