"Lovely guest house, only a couple of minutes from the shops, pubs and restaurants. Very clean and all of the staff were warm and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious with plenty of options. "

"The overall cleanliness of the hotel & the service was wonderful with the exception of a grumpy woman behind the bar her service was awful, she didn’t even come to take my order for lunch I waited 40minutes I even had to go & ask & order it myself up at the bar, it wasn’t even busy. She wasn’t very helpful it was as though she didn’t like the job! Her approach to customers wasn’t great really to be honest. But I certainly give 5 stars to all the other staff in the restaurant & especially the lady at reception. Thank you to those staff that made up for the grumpy one with glasses. "

"The area around the cottage was exquisitely beautiful, with walks from the door for all levels of hiking. We did not use the car once during our stay. A note in the information booklet said the cottage is undergoing a refurbishment in winter 2025, so hopefully some of the facilities will be modernised. A set of decent knives would have been good. The major drawback for us was the proximity of the cottage to the main road. The road noise was very intrusive, particularly early morning, wishing we had read the previous reviews on this before booking. Despite this we still had a great week."

"Brandlehow is the perfect place to relax and refuel. The location is superb, nestled in the woodlands and on the shores of Derwentwater. Most days began with a coffee overlooking the lake, watching the sunrise and the cloud disperse. Beautiful walks from the doorstep and of course a lot of kayaking right from the door. The water levels were incredibly high when we arrived so couldn't make the best use of the launches as we have in the past but enjoyed a trip later in the week. The footpath that runs adjacent to the garden is really only busy around lunchtime as it is midway round the lake loop. Delighted with the additional option of hiring a hot tub too. Beds are very comfy and the landing windows overlooking the lake were great to sit and look over the lake when it got cooler."
