Im going to be honest here; early check-in is not an option. Weve been made to wait 1.5hrs after check-in time, but were given bar vouchers so fair play on staff trying to make do. Shower sink took ages to clear water, room window was opening all the way (I was with 2 small kids). Hotel is old and in need of refurbishment.

Good and bad.

Hotel has seen better days. Very badly cracked sink, rotten under the taps and quite possibly the worst hotel shower i have ever experienced in my sixty odd years. Long, long walk with steps up and down to room 105. Against that a very large room, a larger than king size bed that was extremely comfortable.

A decent value hotel only a few mins walk from central bournmouth. Its all a bit run down however and the bar is terrible (drinks left for hours on tables and no juice available whatsoever!). Otherwise, staff try hard to be helpful and its is a welcoming place.

We had an enjoyable stay. The bed was large and very comfortable. The room was a large family room. unfortunately no air conditioning and no mini fridge. Close to the beach and town centre.

Great location, friendly staff

I stayed at the Carlton with my 9 year old daughter. We had a lovely time. As others have said, parts of it are a bit tired and some of the communal areas (particularly the outside terraces) were a bit grubby. But we found our room very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful. To quote my daughter "the breakfast was awesome". The location was great, right on the beach, and a short walk to Bournemouth pier. I would stay here again.

Beautiful Hotel with stunning views

We had such a wonderful time, our seaview rooms were beautiful, lovely location right on the beach, lovely indoor and outdoor pools, plenty of sunbeds, lots of seating areas, very friendly staff, so helpful with my disabled dad, really loved this hotel, our bed was so comfortable, plenty of tea and coffee in the room, i dont think i would pay for breakfast again, went at 9am and not much left, you had so much choice on buffet menu but no eggs,hashbrowns, hot pastries, shame because hotel was nearly perfect, thanks for a great stay apart from that, would 100% recommend

Two night getaway

The view was fab. All the staff were very friendly nothing to much trouble. Food & service good. We parked out on the road which work well for us. The only issue in room was the water pressure for shower, bath etc they tried to rectify but no success. We enjoyed our two night staff. The Hotel could do with a bit of tlc.

Weather and location were great, our booking wasnt in their computer records, so the romm wasnt ready until late. Very long queue at reception and seemed under staffed. The place needs a lot of TLC. The breakfast was good.

Very nice but a bit scruffy in the bedrooms

Bedroom was beautiful because of the view of the sea, the balconey, the size of the rooms, they were huge because we were in a suite and even the bathroom was huge. For the price I was suprised how scruffy the carpets, paintwork soap dispensers were and the inside pool and jacuzzi were closed. Staff were really lovely both on reception and int he restaurant. Would recommend new carpets in the bedrooms and a quick paintjob on the doors to make it value for money..

The outdoor pool was closed for our entire stay - which was extremely disappointing as this was the main reason for choosing this hotel. Indoor pool was only open for half our stay as well.

It was an okay stay. The rooms a bit outdated. The swimming pool a little dirty. We stayed in a family room and there wasn’t any lift going there so had to use the stairs with buggy, bags, kids. Was not convenient.

Restaurant excellent food and service. Check in before 4pm impossible. Bathroom nice but shower head blocked, about 4minute jets - CLEAN! Decalsify. Black mould in bath sealant. A spray of bleach daily and it will be gone. Other than that a very pleasant stay.

Family time in b’mouth

The hotel is very comfortable, albeit a little tired. The rooms were fine, very large.. not many facilities in the room but ample..the hotel was very hot inside which was a bit uncomfortable.. staff very friendly but they did make a few mistakes on billing etc, however these were quickly rectified. Gym facilities were nice as were the pools.. food served was of good quality but obviously hotel prices. I’d certainly use this hotel again.. good tea making stuff in the room, but I’d have liked a small fridge.. shower facilities were good although in my room it was a bit difficult to turn the shower full off..

We didnt like the amount of people descending on the hotel on Saturday we wanted a nice relaxing afternoon around the pool. Wel you could not get anywhere near a sunbed for the place was took over by a load of dancing we love dancing but not when it goes on for hours we were very disappointed we have been coming to this hotel for years but we will not be coming again if someone would have said on Saturday the hotel will be taken over by a load of dancers then it would have been our choice to book the hotel
