Ashvem Beach

This secluded northern Goa beach has gentle waves and white sand, skirted by tall palm trees and dotted with charming beach hut resorts and restaurants.

Ashwem Beach is a wide white-sand beach at the mouth of the River Chapora. This scenic beach is lined with dense forest and features a selection of beachside hotels and resorts. Visit this beach during the day to enjoy the gently lapping waves and warm sunshine. Walk through the beach’s surrounding forest to find authentic Goan villages and temples. Have dinner at one of the waterfront resorts or restaurants and watch a beautiful tropical sunset.

Wander along the beach to explore 1.5 kilometres (1 mile) of fine white sand. Palm trees hang over the waterfront and the Goan sunshine warms the Arabian Sea shores. Relax on the sands or enjoy a tranquil swim in the calm waters.

Purchase lunch or snacks from the vendors in the beach huts nestled between the trees. Try local Indian curries or international cuisine from one of the restaurants that line the waterfront. For cheaper snacks and drinks, haggle with the food vendors who wander up and down the beach.

Stay the night at an affordable beach hut or check in at one of the pricier resorts situated in the beach’s quieter area. This area is known as Palm Grove and features a range of upscale beach huts in a tranquil, leafy setting. Beach huts are the most common buildings around this area as environmental protection laws prevent new developments on the beach.

Ashwem Beach is surprisingly secluded, despite the strip of resorts and restaurants. An evening noise curfew ensures that the gentle sound of the waves is all you’ll hear as you fall asleep. Explore the small villages located just inland from the beach and its surrounding coconut groves, forests and fields. A short rickshaw journey will bring you to Arambol Beach, where you can enjoy a fun-filled evening at the local bars and clubs.

Ashwem Beach is located in the Pernem region in the north of Goa. Find Ashwem Beach between Morjhim Beach to the north and Mandrem Beach and the mouth of the River Chapora to the south. Explore the area by rented scooter or bicycle or catch taxis and buses. Visit the Morjai Temple nearby and discover an ancient and impressive place of worship.
