Known as one of the best opera houses sinceits construction in 1880, the Alte Oper even housed such classics as CarlOrff’s Carmina Burana.
While much of the building was destroyedin World War II, its surviving walls were dubbed as “Germany’s most beautifulruin”. Since its reconstruction in 1981, the Alte Oper no longer featuresopera, only classical music performances and orchestras. Opera lovers need notdespair however, these shows have simply moved to the modern Oper Frankfurt.
Take a seat in the 2,500-seat capacityof Alte Oper’s Great Hall. Relax and enjoy some of Europe’s best-knownensembles, such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Academy of St. Martinin the Fields, who play here frequently. Popular musicals also feature forlovers of performance arts. To experience a more intimate show, head to AlteOper’s 700-seat Mozart Hall where you’ll see solo or chamber groupperformances.

Access the Alte Oper via the U-Bahnstation next to the building or the S-Bahn station down the street. Drivers canfind parking at one of the six car parks located within a 10-minute walk of theopera house.
