Great location, villa needs attention
Not a lot to love at Villa Maldives except having a pool (and a nice pool man) and the neighborhood—the pictures misrepresent what's inside, from the pergola on the patio that does not exist, to a dirty tablecloth draped on top of a dirty old couch, and stained and uncomfortable furniture. The cleaning crew missed several spots. Etc. Etc. My concerns were heard but the way this property manager is structured it's clear local employees who are perfectly friendly have no power to address things beyond offering to clean again.
The check in process is absurd. I had to upload a selfie of myself holding passport and was told the Portuguese government requires this, yet no other hotel or villa in Portugal requested this of me. A friend came to visit and I had to do the same for his papers, but there was no way to share the link to have him do it himself. The "mandatory check-in welcome" is a sales pitch for group tours and was scheduled for me on my own vacation. It felt like having to do work for them. This company needs serious updating to its business practices and some training in how to treat people, including its employees, with respect and dignity. Absolutely will not rent with this company ever again.
