Adelaide Botanic Gardens

Stop and smell the roses at Adelaide's beautiful cultural and scientific botanic gardens.

The Adelaide Botanic Gardens celebrates the diversity of both native and exotic plant life. The aim of the gardens is to promote culture, conservation, education and scientific exploration. You can embark on your own journey of exploration through the 50 hectares of lush, tranquil, green oasis, dotted with research centres, glass houses and heritage buildings. This is truly a beautiful way to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding city and it's all free! With so much to see, you won't be rooted to one spot for too long. You'll feel like you've stepped right into a Monet painting as you make your way through the Amazon Waterlily Pavilion. Lilies float atop the crystal waters like a treasure trove of sapphires, rubies and diamonds. Located just down the path, the Palm House is just as striking as the Madagascan plant life it houses within. These colourful scenes can be a source of artistic inspiration for some and the gardens have a long history of promoting local artists' work with public installations placed at various locations throughout the parklands.See how the roses grow at the International Rose Garden or amble through the National Rose Trial Garden where these beautiful flowers, originating from all over the globe, are tested to see if they can flourish in the Australian climate.Relax, soak up the sun and have a bite to eat at the romantic restaurant located beside the Kainka Wirra Main Lake. With outdoor seating available you won't have to take any time away from the greenery while refuelling for another wander - it's a feast for all of the senses! Not far, at the very heart of the park, is Schomburgk Pavilion. Here you can learn some more about the gardens' history at the Visitor Information Centre, or green-thumbed gardening enthusiasts can even buy some seeds to create your own little sanctuary once you've returned home.
