Checking into the hotel was really easy and the receptionist on the desk was incredibly helpful. The lobby area of the hotel was beautiful and exactly how I imaged it would be. However, my experiences after leaving the lobby area leave a lot of room for improvement.
Once I found my way to the building (external to the main house) my room was located in there were no lights on outside so it was very difficult to work out which building was the right one (it was dark by the time I had checked in). The building had a key card reader attached to the handle into the building, however this did not work so anyone could have entered the building. From a security perspective this is appalling. Inside the building the carpets around the hotel was worn and dirty - particularly on the staircases.
My room itself smelt weird (like a lingering smoke smell) and the faux leather desk chair was split and broken. In the bathroom the lights were flickering and the tiles/ceiling around the bath had mould growing on them. The carpet around the wardrobe had large moth holes in it and when I entered the room I had to catch a live moth flying around. Additionally I found a rent-a-kill insect trap under the bed. When I checked out I informed the receptionist who didn't didn't really seem that worried/concerned and said she would tell maintenance to remove it.
It is a shame my experience was poor because this hotel is perfectly placed for when I need to travel for work.
The staff were really friendly and the hotel and grounds amazing. However, I paid a large % more for a Superior Room # 404, which is 'standard double' at best. The jacuzzi and sauna was closed but this is the norm at the moment.
