"Great hotel for city break"
We stayed 3 nights and found The Scotsman excellent for location, breakfast, dinner and interesting reuse of an old building. The staff were very friendly and helpful, gladly putting an extra bed in the room for one night so my daughter, an adult, could share with us. The taster menu was an amazing excperience. Can not fault our time there and recommend it wholeheartedly.

"Beautiful and worth the splurge"
We splurged. We're so happy we did. There is something exciting about staying in THAT hotel in any city, the one that stands out and makes people wonder, "What is THAT building?" The room was beautiful, with a large white marble bathroom and the most comfortable bed we slept on in weeks. But the little things are also fun: the nightly turndown with the little card that tells you tomorrow's weather, the free fancy water when we arrived, the doorman, the big fancy staircase with stained glass windows, the art, the fresh flowers in the lobby--that kind of stuff. The train station is literally right beside/underneath the hotel (we didn't hear train noise at all, but our friends did, just a heads-up) so was extremely convenient, and you are just steps from Old Town. Breakfast was pricey but very high-quality with unusual items for the taking. It's expensive for sure, all the way around. But it's also really, really fun.

"Great experience!"
The location was excellent. Walking distance to all the major attractions in the city but still tucked away in a quiet court. Good restaurants close by and easy access to the train station. The room was big and spacious. It was clean with an excellent view. Great, attentive service too.

"Excellent location! Close to several attractions"
Room is clean and looks new. Love the coffee/tea machine in the room! Makes surprisingly great coffee and tea. Nice staff. Excellent location! One block away from the St. Giles Cathedral, walking distance to the Castle, Prince St, etc. If go back again, will stay at this hotel again.

"Best lodging experience in th UK"
This place is even better than the photos. Bigger, brighter, great high end finishes. Nothing there is half done. The neighborhood is very serene and just a few blocks from the haymaket train station and princess street. We have stayed in about 7 high end properties in Edinburgh over the past few years. This is by far the best. Only other upgrade that I would ask for from management is a pillow topped matress. Theirs is a bit firm.

"Charming small hotel, great staff."
Charming small hotel, with really great staff. The Butlers were always happy to help whether with unpacking, drinks or simply a chat. My room was advertised as one of the "petit" ones - perfect as I was travelling alone but probably a little small for two. The decor was a little dated in places, but in many ways part of the charm. A lovely small hotel in the new town!

I cannot say enough about the Knight Residence. It is a wonderful place and I wish that we could have stayed more than one night. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The rooms felt like home especially with the food basket that they provided (cereals, juice, bread). My husband and I enjoyed relaxing in the living room with our cup of tea after walking all day!
