Royal Horseguard is perfect!
We took a taxi from Heathrow for 70 pounds. Cheaper to set up a car via Expedia. This hotel has a perfect location. Walk across the bridge to RIVERWALK, left to the tube, right to Westminster. Room is large and comfortable. Great bathroom with full and deep tub. Now is the time for USA to visit London. The dollar makes the trip about like NYC.
Neighbourhood recommendations: Riverwalk is a great place to roam. Also Viller's road.
Getting around: Don't listen to the taxi's patter. Have the hotel set up a car for to and from Heathrow. It will be a flat rate and more comfortable. In the past we had used Heathrow Express and a taxi to the hotel. Unless your hotel is at Paddington, use a private car set up by Expedia or the hotel.
Dining: Zizzi's are popping up all over London. Great Italian food.
Great place to stay!
Check is was very quick. The staff accomodated our request for two twin beds. The room was very nice, large, clean, and had every ammenity you could imagine. The best parts were the international plugs in the walls that worked perfectly, free WIFI and the TV in the shower! We were spoiled by the room and the location! The only down side was that the window was frosted glass so you couldn't tell what time of day it was. Otherwise, this was an awesome place to stay!!
Dyer Trip
This hotel was conveniently located within walking distance to the Embankment. The location is across from the London Eye and London Aquarium. We walked more than rode on the tubes and this was an excellent starting point. We were centrally located between Buckingham Palace and Parliament. The hotel was the quietest place we have ever stayed even though it was quiet busy. For those that like to lounge in the bathtub the in room TV was quite nice. We didn't eat at the restaurant choosing to do pub food. We did have a couple glasses of wine one evening in the comfortable settings of the lounge area.
Getting there: We chose the airport pickup and return. It is definately a reasonable convenient way to travel. Our fligh was early and we had to be picked up at 4:30 AM. Our driver was right on time.
General Information
What to expect: Converted to a hotel in 1971, this historical property was built in 1884 as a home for international diplomats and prestigious clubs. Today, the French chateau-style, 10-storey building is still a riverside landmark. Door staff in top hats welcome suited executives and casually dressed vacationers into the airy lobby, with its chandelier, brass table lamps, striped sofas, and oak fireplace.
Amenity highlights: Guests have 24-hour access to the fitness center with its range of cardio machines, or they can enjoy the Thames-side location by joining the many joggers along the embankment. The large restaurant retains a surprisingly intimate ambience and has a modern European menu. A business center (surcharge) offers high-speed Internet access; two floors of grand meeting rooms, with restored Victorian decor, can accommodate 250 people.
Insider tip: The subterranean Cabinet War Rooms, from which Churchill directed Britain’s armed forces in World War II, are two blocks from the hotel. The site is now a museum, offering the chance to see one of the war’s best-kept secrets.
