Bellarine Peninsula Adventure Holidays

Room was ok in size and clean but the heating was too hot and very uncomfortable and we couldn't adjust to a lower temp so ended up turning it off and had to open the window. It helped with the heat but I have hayfever so have been getting a headache and sneezing it was the worst sleep. Next day I spoke to reception and she just told me heating is centralized and nothing they can do and that we did the right thing by opening the window. They offered a $10 credit for the room not to be cleaned but you have to put the sign before 1am which I forgot so I didn't bother. When we got back, the room was supposedly cleaned. Yes, bed was remade, towels probably replaced but the bins weren't emptied and there was tissue that fell on the side of the bed that my kid didn't put in the bin-- it was still there so I don't think they really "cleaned". There was short curly hair in the new floormat that I unfolded. I wish I remembered to put the sign to not bother cleaning the room and just got the $10 credit. Had to pay for parking which was annoying and it wasn't even the best parking. Water in room wasnt complementary. We had dinner at the restaurant. Service was good but food was just okay and nothing special. Probably too pricey for what it was. We ordered parmas and for the price expected it to be huge like in other places but it was small. Filling enough but not special. I actually felt the chips were a bit stale. The coffee though was the best coffee I had in Geelong. It was so good!

I was informed AFTER confirming our booking that there *may* be construction noise from 7am-5pm. And that's exactly what happened. The workmen started with at least 3 simultaneous hammer drills, seemingly right into the wall and ceiling of our room - it was so loud - right from 7am. Lots of materials and movement of construction objects. The room was uninhabitable and made the mornings awful, creating headaches and a rush to be anywhere else. I would expect for a charge of >$200/night, I should have the reasonable and comfortable use of the room at any point between check-in and check-out - at least until 9-10am if daytime works need to be done. The staff at the front desk seems surprised that we were bothered by the cacophony of ear-splitting noise, and that we could hear it at all. The staff tried to be sympathetic and helpful, but were essentially powerless. We were moved from southern end of 5th floor, to northern end of 6th floor, and the noise was just as ridiculous. It's clear that the whole building was unsuitable for accommodation, unless at absolutely rock-bottom prices (<$100) or on the lowest floors only. Novotel Geelong failed to live up to its descriptions ("the region's premier hotel", "designed to be the perfect retreat", etc). It should honestly be shutdown completely during these building works.

Very nice place to stay overlooking the bay. Friendly staff, well-maintained property, clean and comfortable. They have a restaurant on site. However, the menu is fairly limited. But what I did have was excellent. Beautiful walking path right across from the hotel along the bay. Close to downtown restaurants and activities.
