Ok, so here's the deal. I needed the cheapest hotel I could find that was walking distance to our NY office - within reason. I booked a "Full Pod," which comes with a private in-room bathroom, for four nights, for under $800. I read some reviews, watched some YouTube videos, and decided to give it a shot. I'm glad I did, because it was (almost) exactly what I needed. The hotel is on a quietish street, feels totally safe, and is surrounded by decent places to grab dinner. The room itself was somewhere between a prison cell and a dorm room, with a sink right next to the bed, so it also kinda felt like an Amtrak bedroom. I was there in late July, so needed to run the A/C constantly, which wasn't exactly quiet. The last thing I'll complain about was the lack of an iron and ironing board. Honestly, it makes sense because there wouldn't have been anywhere to use it. Because I couldn't go into the office looking like I just unpacked, this led to me having to steam my clothes in the shower - which turned the entire room into a sauna. Oh, and the TV is tiny, but at least had an open HDMI input so I could plug in my Roku stick. The bed was comfy, and they give you a lot of pillows. The hotel was really quiet (aside from the A/C), and as I mentioned felt perfectly safe. The good thing about the A/C though is that it gets nice and cold. It's also a 5 minute walk from the Uber LaGuardia shuttle, which will save you at least $100 vs a regular Uber.
