Noisy rooms, with the noise of the pub getting into our room. Double glazing would help -- I expected more, given the tariff I paid. Note that you're coming here purely for the location. The hotel is nice, but it's not a bargain, nor even good value.

Quite a nice hotel in a really great location. Really lovely staff. The rooms are pretty tiny but if you’re the type of traveler that we are, we only spent time in the room to sleep so it really doesn’t matter. The breakfast buffet was excellent. Probably the best breakfast spread I’ve ever had. Not overly wasteful, a reasonable amount of choices that covers most dietary preferences (vegans should look elsewhere) and everything was absolutely delicious. The location is fab. Walking distance to most things (including the metro!). Very easy to get around. We also loved the 24hr gym. Really helped beat the jet lag. I have never stayed at a Rydges before, but i would definitely consider again, them not only in Aus but anywhere else for my next vaycay.

Clean simple large room. Had everything that was need for a short stay, and staff were very helpful. So close to central areas of Newtown.

Loved the modern art deco rooms. Mini bar was complimentary with snacks and non alcoholic drinks. Staff were very friendly. Has a beautiful rooftop bar (Monica) and Palermo restaurant on ground floor. Would highly recommend

Great location at CBD. Close to everything. As a female solo traveler, safety and convenience are my top priorities. This hotel works. My room was small and there is no view. My window faces another wall. But I don’t mind. The room was quiet and I got good rest after each day’s outing. No complaints.

It was my first visit to The Porter House and I was generally happy with my stay. I had asked for a room on a higher floor and away from the elevator, which they were able to accommodate. It was a lovely touch to see my name displayed on the TV when we entered the room, and a bottle of wine and a hand-written card. It's the little things that made the stay enjoyable. The check-in staff were also very lovely and helpful. I really appreciated them. Rooms: Spacious enough for 2 people. The bed was huge. I love the design and curation behind the decor of the room. The iPad controls were nice, such as automatic curtain openers and light controls. It would have been nice to have extra hooks in the room. I found it hard to find places to hang my towel, robe and bags. Coffee machine was a convenient addition to the room. Cleanliness: Given that I had paid almost $400 per night, I think there should have been extra attention to detail in the cleaning. There were a few crumbs in between the armchairs. It would have been nice for house keeping to vacuum the room more thoroughly as some times, there would be hair left behind. Would also be good to clean the shower grouts every once in a while. Other: One thing that was a bit annoying was the signal. My mum wasn't able to get signal while inside the room, and the TV kept freezing. There were also a lot of older shows on so the options on TV seemed a bit limited.
