Novotel Xi'an The Bell Tower

"Location-wise probably as good as it gets - steps to Bell Tower and Kaiyuan Dept Store and other main tourist attractions like the Muslim Quarter close by. But hard to believe it’s classified as a 5-star hotel. No service staff AT ALL to help when we alighted along the curb on the first floor l, dinghy foyer. Lobby is on Level 2 but dim and poorly lit, even worse when we checked out in the morning as we had an early morning flight. Rooms smelt musty and worse, we found airport boarding passes in the bedside drawers dating back to 12 August!!?? Do they even check and clean properly? Would only recommend this for those on a short stay who want to be close to the main attractions. Otherwise there are definitely much better 5 star hotels in Xi-an."

"The positives: Location was walkable close to food street and very lively. Breakfast was good with a wide variety. The staff was pleasant. Easy to get DD ride/ taxi. The Cons Room and bathroom could be cleaned better especially the shower walls. Hotel direction was a bit confusing, but luckily a vendor at the front street showed us the way down the alley."
