I had a one night stay and was impressed by the loveliness of the staff, the comfort of the room and the deliciousness and service of the Wahi staff. I was blessed to have a beautiful, sunny winter weekend and the way the room was set up made the most of the view. Effortless stay. Thank you.

Our second time at this lodge. The room, hosts, cleaners, were all, excuse the accent, FENTISTIC! We just loved the heated floor tiles and heated towel rack, comfy bed, gorgeous kitchen, and relaxing double spa bath! Pillows for me were just a little too soft...but definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a luxurious holiday experience!!!

Property is right in middle of city centre and easy walking distance to everyone. Car parking is available but $15 per night, which is a bit over the top.

Booked a one bedroom unit and the rooms were very clean with comfortable beds. I thought it would be noisy as we were close to the main road but the unit was very quiet. Check in was easy and the manager/owner was lovely and very helpful. Will definitely stay there again.

Loved the large sized room
Was worried when heard there was a 21st on that night but must have good soundproofing as didn't hear a thing
Only negative it was cold so had to keep wall heater on which was a bit noisy

Well priced and so well presented. I’ve never seen a shower so clean it was like a mirror. The staff were lovely and I liked the way the owner showed us to our room and did a final check to make sure it was perfect! Would highly recommend

The best area to stay in Whananaki is Whananaki North, particularly around the main beach and the Whananaki Footbridge.
This area is the heart of Whananaki, offering direct access to the long, sandy beach that stretches along the coastline. The iconic Whananaki Footbridge, the longest footbridge in the Southern Hemisphere, connects Whananaki North to Whananaki South, providing a scenic walk and easy access to both sides of the estuary. You'll find a few local amenities here, including a general store and the main boat ramp.
Families will find Whananaki North ideal due to the calm, shallow waters of the estuary, superb for safe swimming and kayaking. The beach offers plenty of space for children to play, and the footbridge itself is a fun adventure for all ages. There are also various holiday homes and baches available for rent, providing ample space and amenities for family stays.
Couples looking for a relaxing escape will appreciate the peaceful surroundings and natural beauty of Whananaki North. Enjoy leisurely strolls along the beach, explore the rock pools at low tide, or simply unwind with a book overlooking the ocean.
When is the best time to go to Whananaki?
The best times to visit Whananaki are during the warmer months, specifically from late spring through early autumn (November to April), when the weather is ideal for outdoor activities and enjoying the coast.
During these months, you'll find consistently pleasant temperatures, making it great for swimming, kayaking, and exploring the walking tracks. The days are longer, allowing for more time to enjoy the natural beauty of the area, including the famous Whananaki Footbridge, which is one of the longest pedestrian bridges in the Southern Hemisphere.
Families will particularly appreciate visiting during the summer holidays (December to February). The calm, clear waters of the Whananaki Estuary and its surrounding beaches provide excellent conditions for children to play and swim. Many local holiday homes and campgrounds are geared towards family stays, offering a relaxed environment for a memorable beach holiday.
For couples seeking a quieter escape, the shoulder months of November and April offer a wonderful balance. The weather is still very good, but there are fewer crowds, providing a more peaceful experience.
