For the price the room and facilities were great. The room was large with an adjoining bathroom which had a separate toilet. The bathroom was huge with a double sink. The art deco theme runs through the hotel and it is very beautiful in the bar restaurant area. Food must be good as it appeared to be all locals eating there. Bar very good value for money and the free too up of wine very welcome. Very friendly staff. Close to the train station, ample parking on the side streets adjacent to the hotel. Downsides: I’m a wheelchair user, the ramp was at such an acute angle that it was too dangerous. So I had to get help to get up the few steps. The lift is extremely small and barely fit my wheelchair in, I had to pull up the foot rests and mine is a travel electric chair so it’s compact. So if you’re a wheelchair user I would not recommend this hotel. There was food in the mini fridge that was half eaten. The noise aspect was not the other hotel guests it was people who had left local clubs and decided to stand in the street screaming & shouting from 1am to 4am … we could not sleep but not the fault of the hotel staff. So if you need quiet then this may not be the place for you. The very bizarre carpet in the hallways was very strange and really does cause your eyes to deceive you, I dare anyone to attempt to navigate a straight line on it.

A Great Room for the Price
This is a dowdy old hotel in the center of a regional back-water. The price of the room is so low that it is hard to imagine the hotel being able to do much in the way of improvements. The room we had, was, by far, the most spacious of our trip, and the bathroom had a full jetted tub that must have worked once in a time. It still worked for just a bath or a shower. The hotel is located near some good restaurants.

Comfortable clean rooms and friendly staff. Great breakfast. Excellent, well priced meal in the restaurant, the only let down is the wine choice which was limited and overly expensive.

Awesome stay!
This hotel was much more than expected. We walked in and were greeted promptly regardless of a large number of guests in the lobby leaving for a soccer game. The hotel had maps of transit routes to get to the game. The hotel had a spacious room, a fan in the room and beautiful windows that opened. Over the course of a two week trip to Europe with 8 hotels this was our favourite of the trip. Highly recommend staging here.

Very bad experience with this hotel. Assumed parking, with charges, would be available "at" the hotel, only metered parking valid for 3 hours. A lot near the Train Station provided 24 hr parking for 12E. Staff were wonderful & helpful. Room, small/dated, no soap in dispenser in shower, no window screens, many mosquitos at night when very, very hot (90+ F). Bar patrons from below our room (Cuba Bar) kept us up until 4 am (bar hours are 8pm-6am). Closed our window and suffocated in the heat. Elevator not working check-out morning. Breakfast very nice. Tram to Womens World Cup excellent/close. Didn't sleep a wink, and exhaused from heat/noise. #neededafan

Hotel was ok, staff was friendly, but the absence of air conditioner was an unpleasant surprise. I can’t imagine sleeping there a week later when temperatures really rose in France.

Fabulous stay
Three nights during Women's World Cup. Given a grand corner room with 4 large opening windows and a separate sitting room/study. Loads of space in room and very nicely decorated. Mostly excellent staff. Very nice restaurant, though not cheap. Also very nice bar for drink or coffee.

A little hideaway in France...
Our room was modest, but very clean and cozy. Great access to the train station right across the road and close to bars, restaurants and city centre. Breakfast was a little on the expensive side, but was very hearty and plenty of options. Only issues we had was with WIFI accessibility, but that seems to be the ‘norm’ for France. Would definitely recommend and stay again if required...

Valenciennes restored to the grandeur it is owed.
I was surprised the hotel was in such good condition. My extended family live nearby and I spent many holidays with relatives in the area. To tell you the truth, this part of France was always a little bit run down. But the Grand Hotel now exudes the grandeur it should. The room we had (a standard) was adequate in size, with good quality furnishings. It was really clean, without the dark, dusty corners, the chipped furniture, the stains on carpets that you may see in other non-modern hotels. The only disappointment was that there was no air con. This meant that we risked letting bugs in. Why doesn't the hotel invest in some bug screens if it can't invest in air con? We'd have easily given five stars for comfort then.

A comfortable and enjoyable stay
Arrived at 2:00am and had no problems checking in and found my room to be really nice / easy to settle into. Not as quite as I'd of liked but that's only if you need to sleep during the daytime. Staff were really friendly and professional.

Parking can be a hassle. There is only Public parking only with parking meters that you must pay until 6:30pm in the evening or you will receive a ticket. Room was okay, pretty outdated from the comforters, carpet and furniture. Not bad for one night, don't think I could do another.

Our Opinion
The location is fine for a town stay, - opposite the railway station. The hotel is well insulated so no problem. The hotel restaurant was good, stylish, with a good menu and the quality is reflected in the price. There is a tram service accross rhe road which will take you to the town centre. There is the usual problem with the room - Only one chair. These places have single occupacy Monday Friday and in the main cater for that.

Convenient hotel, all be it a bit dated now. Room was clean but a little small. Wifi worked well. Breakfast was ok, although on 1 day it looked like there was little left after the rush hour. If you want convenience to the station and town centre it meets requirements.

Was here for business, location was great, right across the train station. staff were friendly, agreed to hold luggage before check-in and day of check-out. Clean room. The color selection was very odd for the walls and sheets but decent size room. The restaurant had good food and the staff were very friendly.
