Kookaburra Cottage at Uralba Eco Cottages
Get away from it all and relax in a beautiful off-grid Eco Cottage on 38 acres. Experience the peace and beauty of a unique and ecologically sustainable Australian sub-tropical bush environment. The property is Land for Wildlife and located in a koala habitat corridor.
Two distinct cottages make up the one residence at 'Uralba Eco Cottages'. One is occupied by your hosts, the other 'Kookaburra Cottage'. Both are separated by a breezeway, but each living space is designed to ensure the total privacy of its occupants.
With separate car parking and a disability access ramp, Kookaburra Cottage comprises one bedroom with queen bed, private bathroom, open-plan living area with lounge, dining area, and a large private verandah overlooking beautiful gardens. The verandah has its own vertical garden room and water feature.
The property is self-catering; with private BBQ, gas oven and stove, fridge and kitchenette stocked with everything you will need such as crockery, cutlery, locally sourced tea and coffee etc. (Please note there is NO microwave). Organic towels and pillows, luxury linen and environmentally friendly bathroom supplies are provided, along with many added extras to make your stay with us all that more comfortable.
The cottages run on 240v solar power entirely off-grid. Hot water comes from a separate solar system. There is a back-up generator and LPG gas instantaneous hot water system (if needed). Filtered rainwater is gravity-fed to the cottages. Our Worm Waste Management system provides an environmentally sustainable solution for wastewater, sewerage and organic waste.
The buildings were designed to maximise airflow and comfort while reducing the carbon footprint. Much of the timber used in construction of the cottages has been sourced directly from the property and/or recycled materials. We use renewable and recyclable products where possible, provide recycling bins and compost all food waste on site. The garden’s general design principles are based on permaculture and agroforestry and the whole property is organic (chemical free).
There are plenty of things to do at Uralba. Relax on one of the comfy couches or in the hammock with a book, why not play a board game in the garden or become creative with some artwork? Enjoy the birds (over 100 documented species), butterflies, frogs and a variety of native animals such as wallabies, koalas and goannas.
Wander freely around the properly and taste tropical fruit, nuts and Australian bush-tucker foods or forage through the herb and vegetable gardens. There is a new exclusive organic herb garden for our guests.
You can take in beautiful views of World Heritage listed Border Ranges which can be seen on various walks (designed for all fitness levels). More energetic guests might like to take a guided walk to the rainforest/creek in the gully and enjoy the serenity of the sub-tropical rainforest canopy.
OR You may prefer to do nothing much at all.....
