Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
Property is in great location, handy to local station, laundromat, grocery store and other shops. House clean, comfortable and has everything you need for a great stay in Tokyo. Our host Kevin was fantastic, he really looked after us. Very quick to respond to our questions and very knowledgeable and friendly.
This was an amazing place to stay. It is in a quiet residential neighborhood where rental properties are very hard to find. It’s a quick walk to the train station, and you pass buy a range of mom-and-pop restaurants: Japanese, Halal, Italian. The house is spacious and well laid out with the bedrooms separated from the common rooms, keeping the noise down. We would for sure stay here again!
We had a great stay and Kevin made it very easy for us on our first family trip to Japan. Easy access to trains, stores and restaurants with great recommendations. The house was perfect for transitioning to Tokyo time and well stocked with everything needed. Highly recommend
Very clean and spacious place in a nice quiet neighborhood
We really enjoyed our stay here. The place is very clean and has a lot of room. The neighborhood is so quiet, yet it is only a short walk to convenience stores, a grocery store, many restaurants, and the train station. The host is great, they provided plenty of helpful information for first-time visitors to Japan. I would highly recommend staying here if you want a place in a quiet neighborhood that is an easy train ride into the heart of Tokyo.
Quiet neighbourhood and close to transport. Kevin provided a lot of helpful information and was very responsive to my questions. The house contents and towels need an update but overall the experience of living like a local was wonderful.
We were 2 couples staying at Kevin’s. It was a great location, close to a vibrant coffee shop, a pasta restaurant and a Mediterranean restaurant that serves falafel. A pharmacy, 7 Eleven and other stores were nearby. It was a five minute walk to the train station, which we rode daily. I definitely recommend this property.
The House was large and comfortable, Kevin, Host, was attentive, friendly, supportive, knowledgeable, respectful, and quick to communicate. We wanted to contribute to the house and future guests because the place is special. Many local trains and grocery stores. Easy to get to anywhere in Tokyo and beyond from there. We would definitely consider it a home away from home and place to stay again when we go to Japan.
The location was not too far from the station and within walking distance are many shops and small restaurants. It is a short ride to Shinjuku, Shibuya and Ikebukuro. All the amenities are included and we ran out of nothing. Kevin had been a super host and very informative and communicative about the city and home. In Japan, we found many stairways are narrow and steep in comparison to North America, they are easy to go down but should still be careful. I would recommend the stay!
Kevin was very communicative and also very helpful in providing suggestions on places to visit or eat. His video that he sent to us just before we arrived showed us exactly how to arrive at the home. It is in a very convenient location with supermarkets, convenience stores and the train station within minutes of the home. Ikebukuro was just a few minutes away by train and from there we used other trains or the subway to get to other parts of Tokyo easily.
We highly suggest you stay there if you want to be away from the busyness noisy city.
Really enjoyed our stay. Tons of room for 4 people. House was very clean with lots of amenities supplied. Host's communication was excellent. Only drawback was the sink in the bathroom has no hot water so if you need to shave you have to boil a kettle and fill the sink.
The neighbourhood is absolutely wonderful. Lots of great bars, izakayas and restaurants. 24 hour konbinis all around. Very short walk to the station which takes you to Ikebukuro in a matter of minutes.
The house provided us with a very quiet and relaxing sanctuary after enjoying all the excitement that Tokyo has to offer.
Kevin was a lovely host who was very welcoming - his communication was excellent with lots of advice and tips about the local area. Tokyo House is in a safe and authentic neighbourhood close to the train station, amongst a number of restaurants, stores and cafes & is suitable for a large group or family. The house itself is an older style house, which could definitely do with a refresh. There are several water leaks and some mould in the bathroom, a large water stain in living area as well as some stains on the bed sheets and towels - the toilet mat also needs to be replaced or cleaned. Apart from these small things, which can be easily fixed, we enjoyed our stay at Tokyo House.
My first Vrbo and especially in a foreign country to me. The owner made it so easy and was very communicative. We stayed for 1 week. The house was perfect for our family, but we were also all adults. The house was snug for us, but plenty of room for all of us to have our own space/bedrooms. Five minute walk to the train, 2 minute walk to the 7-11. Great way to experience Japan without hotels. Would definitely recommend to any group who want to visit Japan and experience it as a native of Tokyo. Kevin was GREAT and checked in on us. GREAT experience.
Excellent stay in an interesting neighbourhood with a community feel.
Kevin is a very helpful and informative host, providing tips about places to visit and eat. We had a very pleasant stay and Higashi Nagasaki is vibrant and a great place to explore. It is also close to other places of interest. Two suggestions to make it better - the Japanese room is very nice but not very useful for westerners. It has a small table to sit at in the traditional way but food cannot be eaten there. The kitchen, dining table, couch and TV are crowded into another room. We would also have liked a greater range of linen. Only doonas were provided. Otherwise, we would heartily recommend this accommodation.
What an amazing trip! We took our family to Tokyo for Thanksgiving week and had a great stay. Our host Kevin sent us very detailed instructions including a YouTube video on how to get to the property. It’s only a 10 min walk from a subway station so it was very accessible to all of Tokyo. The neighborhood itself feels very suburban and family oriented. Theres a grocery store only a block away and lots of good restaurants and bars in between the train station and the house. It was perfect for our needs. It had a well equipped kitchen, comfortable bedrooms, a good bathroom and hot shower. Everything we needed was there. It was clean and comfortable and Kevin was very responsive to our questions. He was a great host. I can’t recommend high enough.
A great place away from the crowds yet a short train ride to all the spots. The way it's laid out w/separate rooms and floors dampens noise and made it possible for my husband to conduct zoom meetings in the middle of the night without disturbing the family at all. Loved the quiet residential neighborhood and enjoyed readymade meals from the local market and picking up snacks and waters at 7-11 or Family Mart which are all within easy walking distance. We also opted to use the laudromat since the weather was drizzly plus we had coins we needed to unload. A slight downside about this property is the toilet room with little to no counter space and the shower room is wet and kind of moldy but Japanese bathrooms are just different in this way. For us it was fine because of all the benefits. We adapted by using the kitchen sink and counters as another area for toothbrushing but we did not do any cooking. The tatami room was wonderful and makes the main living room feel more spacious even if only one person is sitting on the floor to round out the conversation area of sofa and dining table. Definitely respect the space by the no food or drink rule. I used it to meditate and stretch and it's great for a nap. This was our first-time using VRBO and we LOVED it!
This is a nice little 2 story house, in a quiet neighborhood. 5 minute walk to convienance store, coffee shop, restaurants and train station. The down stair steps are very steep and narrow. Worked well for me (50) and son (29), we made sure dad (81) used the main level bedroom. Nice little kitchen and has most thing needed for making meal. We were on the go so much, we didn't use anything except the microwave to warm items up. It is a nice place to stay and wind down after all the hustle and bustle of being in the packed tourist areas during the day.
I'd stand on balcony in the morning and play on my phone. Many locals would wave and smile. Found a small coffee shop that was open air and some crates for seats outside. Staff enjoyed speaking English and would approach and just ask questions. They'd introduce other customers they knew who spoke English too. They play vinyl music most of the time.
Kevin the owner was really great to communicate with. He takes and interest in your trip and provided multiple ideas and recommendations of thing to do nearby and all over Tokyo. Leading up to the trip and during if you have questions. He was quick to reply even with a huge time zone difference before the trip.
It was a lot larger than we thought and was a great place for us to come back to after wandering the rest of Japan.
Mind the stairs leading to the basement/first floor area since they can hurt if you slip.
It was very authentic and nice!
Kevin was outstandingly helpful with information about the local area, trains, transportation from airport and many other things. The house was lovely. Located in a quiet neighborhood convenient to the train station , local grocery, restaurants and stores. The house was clean and extremely well-stocked for our stay. We hope to visit again. Thank you Kevin!
This was the first property we stayed at on our trip to Japan.
The location is perfect 2 stops out from major attractions and central Tokyo.
There some great local restaurants and coffee shops
It is very quiet neighborhood which is great to escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
The only downsides were that the building is let out to others and the although they were not noisy we did hear every footstep above and voices. However this doesn't distract from a great owner and location.
We loved our stay at Kevin's place. It's in a delightful quiet, leafy neighbourhood, just a 6-7 minute walk to the station. There are a few restaurants and shops around, everything you need. Ikebukuro is incredible, especially if you love shopping! It's only 2 stops from Kevin's local station and from there you can access the rest of Tokyo easily. Kevin was very communicative and helpful, always easy to reach. This is a lovely base from which to explore Tokyo, we highly recommend it.
