Australia is renowned for its pristine golden beaches and clear blue waters, and this picture-perfect paradise located on Perth’s Rottnest Island is no exception. The water is warm and inviting but the waters do become deep pretty quickly, but there are plenty of shallow areas where children can splash about and have fun in the water. The beach is only 200 metres long and is quite narrow in places so if you’re looking for privacy and want to find a secluded spot, it’s best to head over to the east side of the beach. For amazing views of life beneath the ocean, grab your snorkelling gear and wade in to the clear waters. There are dozens of species of fish and coral waiting to be discovered in this underwater wonderland at Basin beach. The calm waters are also ideal for anyone who isn’t experienced or who wants to learn to snorkel. There are also deeper reefs for more experienced snorkelers.Take a picnic along with you and tuck in while taking in the stunning views over the Indian Ocean. It’s a good idea to bring a beach umbrella with you as there is very little shade on the beach. The Basin is located around one kilometre from Rottnest Island’s main settlement, which is based at Thomson Bay. There is no public transport that directly services the area, so getting to the Basin beach will involve a short walk and / or cycle ride. There are changing rooms and toilet facilities available across the small road behind the beach.
