Stroll the length of the boardwalk and admire the view, enjoy a round of mini golf or enjoy a bite to eat at Perth’s liveliest marina.
Hillarys Boat Harbour has to be one of Perth’s most popular entertainment spots. It boasts an attractive sheltered beach, perfect for a tan top-up or for messing about in the water for a while. There are shops selling pretty much everything and a plethora of superb restaurants and dining establishments. The area takes its name from founding resident, Bertram John Hillary, who built a boat shed here in the 1930s. Today, the area next to the waterfront is a major draw for visitors, who come to sample the local culture. If you enjoy life on the ocean waves, dabble in a bit of the area’s local heritage. You can either rent a fishing boat and land a catch or two or join experienced seamen on a local whaling trip. If you prefer life beneath the waves, and fancy spotting some of the local sea life, there’s some superb scuba diving to be had in the crystal clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The area’s packed with family-friendly activities, too. If you have a head for heights, have a go at climbing the world-class rock-climbing wall. There’s mini-golf for the kids, though the adults will probably enjoy this just as much! There are also plenty of mind-expanding activities going on. Again, on a sea theme, the Naturaliste Marine Discovery Centre is well worth a visit.Restaurants are in abundance, with many located along the Sorrento Quay. Because of the location, there’s a big emphasis on seafood, but you can also find burgers, steaks and other delicious options. If you love to shop, there are some seriously classy boutiques located along the quay, selling artisan chocolates, local art, Western Australian pearls and designer clothing. Hillarys Boat Harbour is located in the northern suburb of Hillarys. It is best accessed by car, but public transport is available.
