"The hotel is absolutely lovely albeit a little bit dated. Rooms were very clean. I was surprised that my (expensive) booking didn't include breakfast but it didn't bother me. The Gulangyu View Room had a spectacular view. Service at the hotel was lovely although they seem to want to charge for everything. I got a couple of coffee sachets in my room and there was a sign saying if I wanted more, it was chargeable. Seemed a bit odd to me because I would not use the tea bags. I wonder if they would...

"While I was initially a little disappointed by the small and old hotel lobby, I changed my mind once I checked into my room. The view from my room was phenomenal. The bed was very comfortable, with special buckwheat pillows, and I slept very well during my stay. The bathroom also had a useful smart toilet. These two things—along with the friendly and helpful hotel manager, Mr. Li— made my stay at this hotel worthwhile."
