The best area to stay in Sutjeska National Park is Tjentište, the park's administrative and recreational hub.Tjentište is located in the central part of the park, located in a valley by the Sutjeska River. It's home to the impressive Monument to the Battle of Sutjeska, a significant historical landmark, and a large open-air swimming pool, which is a popular spot in summer. The area serves as the primary starting point for many of the park's activities and trails. For active travellers and hikers, Tjentište is ideal. The main road through the park, which connects Foča with Gacko, passes directly through Tjentište, making it easy to access. From here, you can arrange guided hikes to Perućica Rainforest, one of Europe's last remaining old-growth forests, or embark on treks towards Maglić, Bosnia and Herzegovina's highest peak. The visitor centre, where you can get maps and information, is also located here.Families will find Tjentište a convenient base. The large swimming pool provides a great way to relax after exploring, and there are often open green spaces for children to enjoy.
