Given our central location we believe we offer fantastic value where our nightly rates are concerned, as we're sure you will have noted when researching Stamford. Whilst all room facilities are clearly stated pre-booking and again after confirmation, unfortunately we cannot write our own text on booking sites to stress any particular points. Hotels are obliged to provide information within the sites' 'templates' and we are sorry that all was not clear to you on this occasion ... Concerning toiletries, always available to all our lovely guests is a selection of shower gel, hand-wash, shampoo/conditioner, deodorant, shaving foam, shower caps, cotton wool, vanity kits, soap, sewing kits and sanitary supplies; all high quality branded items. Our family room is a large room with two double beds. Along with quality linens/towels, branded hot drinks and bottled water, anyone comparing rates in the area we're sure would agree that the nightly rate of £95 (or just £65 for a double room), offers superb value given our central Stamford location ... Whilst all room information is clearly shown at the time of research/booking and then again on the booking confirmation page, we should clarify that hotels are obliged to provide their information within the framework/template of options given to them by the on-line booking sites, so unfortunately we cannot simply write our own text to make one thing or another more obvious. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and noting that at £60 p.night/double room we offer exceptional value in the heart of Stamford. For a midweek stay such as yours for next week, hotels are available at c.£145 upwards per night, so it seems that this 'little more' is what attracted you to booking a room at our lovely inn, where you also enjoyed the comfortable facilities all to yourself. Visitors are always happy to find that there is free on-street parking at our building with a nearby car-park also available. Our friendly staff are very happy pre/at time of arrival/stay to help with queries, so we were dismayed to find that you did not seek any help re: Wi-fi/TV/breakfast etc. All our TVs receive Freeview TV/Radio and channels can be changed via remote control/manually in the same way as guests would do at home. Like most other hotels(!) we do have a (rather late) time for locking up and securing the building for the night but guests are not locked in! - there are keys to enable access to rooms at all times and a phone number for out of hours assistance. Booking details state that we do not currently serve breakfast within our price point and whilst we do have staff accommodation on-site, we were sorry to hear that at this early time you were sad not to have someone on hand to bid you farewell. Guests leave us from first thing until 11am; it would be impractical for 1-3 rooms for someone to sit by the door for 5-6 hours to see everyone off. All valued guests arriving with us are welcomed in to their rooms with bag assistance and initial queries answered (not always the case in other hotels you mention, where it is also the norm to simply pick up your bags, close your door and leave the building). We do wish you superb travels ahead and hope that you always find the services you so desire at a price which also suits your pocket ...

Dear Anonymous Toastmaster, on arrival at our lovely inn you received the same warm welcome as all other valued guests from our hardworking, friendly team. Check-in could not be until 3pm as the rooms were still being readied following the previous night's bookings (as outlined in our on-line details, where breakfast information is also available). At the time you were more than happy with this as you said you were obliged to attend a pre-meeting before your actual work later in the day, so would return afterwards, choosing to take your bag with you. You appeared disgruntled that you had to attend this ‘unnecessary’ meeting but we didn't pass comment or 'joke along' with you as we were quite taken aback by the way in which you were speaking about the hosts of the celebration you were attending at The George Hotel. When you duly returned, there was no mention of you wanting to go somewhere else and you were personally shown to your room. We remember having a pleasant conversation about the history/age of our historic Georgian building and at this point you tried to make an ageist joke; again, we would be embarrassed to make further comment on such a matter. We remain shocked that someone in your position would be so unprofessional in your comments, your review and particularly the way in which it is written. We are sorry that unlike other guests your stay did not exceed your expectations, but we remain confident that our clean and comfortable rooms offer super value for a night's stay here in the heart of beautiful Stamford. Dear Maria, thank you for your reservation at The Green Man; it was a real pleasure for our friendly staff to welcome you to our Georgian coaching inn, brimming with 230 years of character and wonderful features. As the night of your stay approached, we noted that our larger 'Family Room' was available and, as you had made your reservation some time ago, we made the decision to prepare this room for you so that you had more room to 'lounge' with an extra bed and more surface space/storage for your convenience. The nightly rate for this room is considerably higher than for your double room rate and we did think that we were doing something nice for our weekend guests ... The side walls in this larger room are gently sloping, which I believe is what you refer to and not the actual ceiling ... Many customers rejoice in being able to park right outside the pub for free in such a central town location, however there is also a convenient car park just 2 minutes' walk away with is free from 6pm each Saturday evening until Monday morning. Although in Stamford we are surrounded by beautiful country-side, we are located in a thriving town which means we do have the occasional car or pedestrian passing by during the evening. However, our accommodation is situated so that this is not normally an issue with our valued guests ... We do make sure that information concerning amenities is accurate to view on booking sites and we remain positive that given our price point we offer fantastic value for clean, comfortable accommodation in central Stamford, with some extra touches. We are very sorry that, before or during your stay, we did not have the opportunity to advise further on any queries you may have had, but we thank you again for your custom and wish you happy travels ahead this Summer ...

On the day on which I believe you stayed, during housekeeping times we detected an issue with the TV signal in the rooms and immediately called for professional assistance. Unfortunately, given the weekend timing the company were unable to visit us until Monday morning, when everything was very quickly rectified. Although less than ideal for the weekend's guests, it was our understanding that this (temporary) situation was explained upon check-in and relevant action taken.
