Modern cottage with parking, patio, close to sea and harbour

This delightfully presented cottage is perfect for families or couples, as it is situated close to a host of attractions in this historic part of Cornwall. An 8 minute walk to two beaches, the harbour, restaurants and pubs. Sleeps 4, plus room for a travel cot, and has sea views from the master bedroom. There is a patio area and outdoor furniture.
A beautifully unspoilt Georgian harbour town and working port, Charlestown is a captivating piece of history. The port and village of Charlestown was named after landowner and entrepreneur Charles Rashleigh. It was built between 1790 and 1810 to provide a safe, deep water facility for local fishermen, and the traders in copper ore and china clay from the mines in the nearby St. Austell area. The Charlestown Shipwreck and Heritage Centre has many exhibits detailing the seafaring history of the port. Today Charlestown is a designated World Heritage site. The harbour is Grade II listed and a prime example of a late Georgian working port and has provided permanent moorings for 3 tall ships. Although, no longer permanent, the tall ships still frequent the harbour. Popular with film directors, Charlestown has featured in many productions including recently the very popular POLDARK, and of course The Eagle Has Landed, The Three Musketeers, and even Doctor Who. A selection of craft shops and galleries are scattered throughout Charlestown. During holiday season there are plenty of ice cream opportunities with the Tall Ships Creamery based next to the harbour and old weighbridge. Fine homemade Cornish produce – not just ice cream, fudge and sweets too. There are lots of places to have coffee and cream teas, and many wonderful restaurants. A Traditional Cornish Pasty can be bought near the harbour plus fresh crab or crayfish-tail sandwiches to take down on to the beach. The Pier House Hotel and restaurant, The Rashleigh and Harbourside pubs are family friendly and serve local ale and delicious food overlooking the beautiful harbour and its ships all year round. Wreckers restaurant specialises in locally-caught fish. The Boathouse offers more relaxed dining for lunch, afternoon tea or an evening meal. Lovedays, and The Longstore are fairly recent additions to the Charlestown gastro experience. Tesco and Asda are within approx 1.5 miles of No.34. Polkyth Leisure Centre close-by in St Austell offers an indoor pool with lots of family open times during the school holidays. Charlestown Health and Beauty salon is in the centre of Charlestown, offering a full range of Clarins treatments. Charlestown has an annual fun regatta in the summer, as do Fowey and Falmouth nearby – both of whom generally have a visit from the Red Arrows. Top attractions nearby include: The Eden Project. The Lost gardens of Heligan. Fowey – the home of Daphne Du Maurier. Mevagissey. 35 minutes to the North coast for surfing and body-boarding at Polzeath or Newquay. Visiting Padstow or Rock is also a must. Polkerris – a wonderful watersports beach is only a few miles along the coast. Charlestown Shipwreck & Heritage Centre. Bike trails and cycle hire. Coast path walks. Sailing. Windsurfing. Kayaking. Plenty of golf courses too, the nearest being Porthpean. We are also 10 minutes from Cornwall's Football Golf.

St Austell Station = 1.6 miles
Fowey = 6 miles
Padstow = 20 miles
Newquay = 18 miles

Perfect little house in a great spot.
Whist it was weird for us to be staying in a modern property (we live in an old cottage) this little house was perfect. Great location on a small estate on the outskirts of the village. we loved the fact it had parking, it was clean and tidy and had everything we needed including proper size bath towels (I was able to leave ours in the car)!! A short walk took us down to the harbour where there were plenty of choices for eating and drinking (thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Short and Strong) and some lovely shops if you need a bit of retail therapy. We took everything we needed with us but there are two big supermarkets within a 5 minute drive. We appreciated the pretty little courtyard garden which would be lovely to use in nice weather ( a November visit and almost permanent rain meant that we didn’t get the opportunity). All in all, would have no hesitation in returning if we fancied a return visit to Charlestown (and the fact that the Museum was closed means this is a very real possibility!)

Just OK
We are very familiar with Charlestown. Property looked shabby from outside. Everything was there in the propertythat we needed. My main issue was the cleanliness. It needs a deep clean. Bed linen and towels were fine. Kitchen and bathroom needed a good clean,, bathroom very tired. We had to get the vacuum out for cobwebs and spiders, the vacuum head was filthy.

Charlestown cottage
Cottage in quiet location, easy walk to beautiful Charlestown harbour, big supermarket 10 minutes walk the other way. Cottage has everything you could need, kitchen is very thoughtfully provided with all utensils, crockery etc. Communication with owner was brilliant prior to stay. I never did get the tv to work, which didn’t really bother us, but I did call the management company a couple of times about it, but didn’t get a reply, which is the reason for their low score

Comfortable stay
Clean and comfortable. Entirely relaxing and the location provided easy access to surrounding areas such as Fowey, St Mawes, Penrewton etc. Evening strolls to the Charlestown Quay with good restaurants and pubs. Our first impression on arrival was not as expected but we soon settled and we were very happy with everything offfered by number 34. Hope we return one day. With thanks to owner- very well presented

Modern, fuss free house in good location
The house was modern and comfortable and the parking space definitely a bonus. It’s in a good location with easy walking to Charlestown ,restaurants and the challenging coastal path! The only issue we had was the TV signal which was intermittent especially when the weather was bad
